No logical person believes it but some of the local TV broadcasters talk like they do. (And I haven't even listened to Sterling and Susan).

I couldn't post this saturday because of computer problems, but did anyone notice that when Farnsworth slipped on the wet mound in the eighth inning, McCarver called him Furcal?!?!!

Tim is getting more like Ralph Kiner everyday with the malaprops.

Well sure. I think if Torre is dismissed (or paroled, if you will), it will not have been a rational decision by the club. He's shown the value of staying the course. Yeah, they're 10 games out now, but if they focus on getting pitching help, I have no doubt they'll be within three by Sept. 1. It's happened too often.

The only thing they have any chance of being within three of by Sept. 1 is dead-ass last.

How is Torre any different than Larry Brown or Dusty Baker? Both Brown and Baker are great coaches who got fired as of late, and deservingly so.
Torre shouldn't keep getting a pass. Yes he's a great coach, yes they've had a lot of unfortunate injuries, and yes the rotation is horrible. But how deep does the ship have to sink before Steinbrenner pulls the plug?
It's not as if the Yankees' problems all started this season, either.
They've been bounced from the playoffs in the opening series the past two seasons and are getting older every year.
They're in danger of missing the playoffs this year barring a comeback, yet everyone in the organization says not to worry because they can turn it on when it matters.
It's getting to the point where even if they turn it on in August/September it won't matter cause they'll be so far behind.

Well, for one thing, Joe Torre can't quite match Dusty Baker's history of abusing the arms of young starting pitchers.

I don't think Torre has had any of his small children run on the field and nearly get steamrolled at home plate during a game, either.

Oh, and there are those World Series rings...

Nah. Torre will just post one of those nude photos of Jeter's latest belle covered with peel-away stickers. And they'll sacrifice a live chicken so Cano's demons will be exorcised..

First, everyone says the hitting isn't the problem, and they point to A-Rod and Posada's numbers.

Then everyone says Clemens won't help, things are too bad.

Of course, Clemens will help them to some degree. He will give them another veteran arm in the rotation. Even if he only goes five innings, it means putting a younger guy like Igawa or Karstens, when he returns, or someone else into the bullpen and allowing them to mature more. And meaning they pitch fewer innings.

I still think the Yankees have a slim chance of getting anywhere this year, but to write them off before June 1 is tomfoolery.

The Yanks could use a slugger like Clu Haywood these days. . .

OOP, you beat me to it. Let's see ... Larry Brown? Quality coach, sure, but jumps ship every time the wind blows. He's won everywhere he's been, but not to the level Torre has achieved with the Yankees. Dusty Baker? Please. If he were a great manager, he'd be managing.

And the argument that postseason failings of the past are a reason to axe him ignores two key facts: 1.) Winning championships is hard, and it's all about being hot at the right time. Honestly, that's not something anyone can control; 2.) Torre is not responsible for acquiring players. Even with the Yankees' resources, this is not an exact science.
