Which athletes/coaches do you think get a free pass from the press?

Discussion in 'Journalism topics only' started by Mizzougrad96, Jan 22, 2009.

  1. I looked too. It was made in 2008.
And it's about a group of pro athletes who go to a strip club (I read the synopsis).
Jordan retired about what, 10 years ago?
They can make and distribute pornos in what a week?

If the whole notion is true it might be a line in a gossip column, but I'm not sure it would be worth a story or constitute Jordan getting a free pass (at least in this case).

If it was made in 2008, it's not the same film. If I had to guess, it came out in 1998 or 1999.

I stand corrected, it came out in 1997.

  4. As do I sorry.

It was (re)released in 2008 on the link I saw. It was listed as a classic.

What's the definition of a free pass?

The French version of The National went after Armstrong with everything it had. It failed to produce anything concrete. The LA Times did a big story in 2006 on the doping allegations.

So when it's said he "got a free pass" do you mean because the AP, ESPN, SI and other heavyweights didn't go after him? Or because columnists didn't rip him because of the allegations of doping?

Free pass? Obama and his actions were/are examined every day. The press tried to connect him with fools such as his reverend and Jesee Jackson. Nothing stuck. He was/is teflon.

Bowden /is/ a extraordinarily personable guy. You're at ease as if you're talking to your father or grandfather. I don't think there's an intent to fool anybody or to marshal support, but his personal charm affects people's judgment of how he's run that program.

My impression of Armstrong is that he said he didn't do it and most media outlets said, "OK" and left it at that. I never saw the LA Times story.

Why is Jeff Fisher glorified as a great coach when he's actually had a pretty pedestrian record:
