Very disappointed in Eragon, but I suppose they didn't want to be too much of a clone of Lord Of The Rings.

Really gutted the book, too; I suppose they had to in order to get a decent-length movie out of it.

Children of Men was well done for what it was trying to say, but it was DARK. Yikes. I needed a brownie after leaving the theater. I would be surprised if The Departed is not nominated. Borat could be a wild card (a little better than the good-not-great Little Miss Sunshine). Wordplay might have been the movie I most enjoyed seeing in 2006.

I'd go with Flags of our Fathers.

And everyone knows that Transformers will be the Best Picture next year .....

Just watched the Last King of Scotland dvd and I liked it better than I thought I would but then wiki'd the story only to find out it's not true. Oh well.

Little Miss Sunshine was the best movie of the year.

    Departed was overrated.

The Queen is a very well-done BBC movie-of-the-week.

And here's your five Best Picture nominees, which will be announced by the Academy at 5:30 LA time on Tuesday morning...

    1. The Departed
    2. Letters from Iwo Jima
    3. The Queen
    4. Babel
    5. Dreamgirls.

    Here's your best actor:
    1. Forest Whitaker. No one else need apply, judging by all the critics lists he's won so far.

    And best actress:
    1. Hellen Mirren. See no. 1 above. Sorry, Meryl Streep.

And here's a darkhorse: Jackie Earle Hailey could be nominated for Best Supporting Actor for playing a child molester in Little Children. Who he? Oh, c'mon...you remember Kelly Leake from the original Bad News Bears don't you?

I enjoyed People magazine's review of Blood Diamond: Didn't get all gushy about Leonardo's accent and shredded the movie and Jennifer Connelly's character for being preachy and boring.

Jackie Earl Hailey's best role was in Breaking Away. They'd call him Shorty and he'd kick some ass!

Loved when he punched the time clock.

    What a film.

Paul Dooley at his absolute best.

Saw Dreamgirls. Jennifer Hudson will cakewalk to the Oscar. She's unbelievable. Eddie Murphy is quite good as well... Beyonce can't act for shit...

The film as a whole is pretty good. It's not best picture quality though.

On top of everything else, Mirren deserves the Oscar simply for her liberal exposure of one of the most underrated bods in film ever.
