Right on, Oz. My favorite team hasn't cracked .500 in 14 years. While I loathe the whole "small market" excuse in baseball, the NFL cap at least gives each franchise some equal footing.

    Is this even debatable?

How many contenders would WANT a 32-year-old, .434-slugging RF who makes, what, $16 million next year?

Abreu wouldn't be a big upgrade for the Red Sox (Nixon) -- not enough to do any big-time wheeling and dealing.

    Or the Blue Jays (Rios).

    Or the White Sox (Dye).

The Twins have finally gotten somewhat of a breakout year from Cuddyer.

The Tigers have Magglio -- and, as someone noted on another thread, Dmitri Young just came off the DL and gives them another stick from the left side. In any case, the Tigers are having trouble hitting lefties, not righties.

    The Angels have Vlad.

If I'm Oakland, I'd cast my lot with Bradley.

The Rangers just traded for Carlos Lee.

In St. Louis, Encarnacion is playing better than Abreu.

    L.A. has J.D. Drew.

The Mets need to spend whatever capital they have on pitching.

The Astros already landed Huff and are trying to get Tejada.

So I don't really see why there would be much teeth-gnashing over Abreu.

    Would
    is much different than could.

I agree with most of your team-by-team breakdown.

The only thing you gloss over is Abreu provided a much needed left-handed presence for a number of those teams.

The point is that the Yankees, already with a $200 million payroll, can keep applying the cash.

  5. Not sure if this indicates anything, but I did some research recently, and found something interesting: If you take the winning percentages of all teams in the NFL, it equals .500. And if you do the same thing in baseball, it also equates to EXACTLY .500. Needless to say, I was quite startled.

And, when the doctor said I didn't have worms any more, that was the happiest day of my life.

My doctor said I wouldn't have so many nosebleeds if I kept my finger out of there.
