Who will be the coach?

Duke fires Ted Roof. He could have been in a much different situation. He was going to be George O'Leary's offensive coordinator at Notre Dame, but you know what happened there. He ends up on Carl Franks' staff and Duke and is elevated as head coach.

 

i could be wrong, but i remember reading that pelini's not really fond of recruiting. if i'm osborne, that takes pelini out of the running immediately. at a school that's gotta recruit its ass off to get speed--the place where the lack of a true natural recruiting base really hurts the huskers--you can't say that about your head coach.

gill's great because he understands the culture at nebraska, which callahan never did and ultimately paid for. but he's also not going to come in and try to resurrect the devaney/osborne offense.

either way, i'd fight like hell to get jim grobe and make sure he can bring in a recruiting coordinator that'll get him the necessary athletes to field a top-flight defense. that'll take care of a lot for NU.

Possibility at Duke: Dave Clawson, from Fordham/Richmond. He's built good programs at I-AA schools with decent resources, not great facilities, and higher-than-average admission standards.
