Who will be the coach?

Which is why Nutt is perfect for Ole Miss. After so many decades of crap teams (for the most part), winning eight games on a regular basis will seem like heaven.

Except they fired David Cutcliffe after one 4-7 season after he had seasons of 8-4, 7-5, 7-4, 7-6, and 10-3 so they could replace him with Ed O. Cutcliffe also won four of his bowl games during that time.

I'm thinking Wazzu might hire Pat Hill, if he's interested. His predecessor at Fresno, Jim Sweeney, also coached at Wazzu and (I think) coached Bill Moos, the ex-Oregon AD (forced out by Phil Knight) at WSU. Moos is helping his alma mater again and is conducting the search for the new coach.

Hill has been somewhat successful, knows California recruiting, where Wazzu gets at least half of its players, and has some personality, an edge, and doesn't come off like a polished city-slicker, which doesn't sell in Pullman. All their coaches (Sweeney, Jim Walden, Erickson, Price, Doba) are pretty regular guys.

He'd be an acceptable alternative to the "hire Mike Price" faction, a proven name, not a I-AA promotion like Hauck and Wulff. And Hauck has Husky blood. That's OK in women's hoops (they just hired the fired UW coach) but probably not in FB.

Plus, a change might be good for him as he appears to have plateaued somewhat at Fresno.

I also think Moos was the AD at Montana who hired Joe Glenn (not sure about that). Had Glenn finished what he started at Wyoming this season, he's be a hot candidate. But the Pokes collapsed.

The bartenders at the Hoffbrau in Fresno would miss him and his staff, though.

It will be interesting to see Hill's level of interest. He's revered there and there is also the fact that he has made as much use of partial qualifiers as anybody in the nation and will no longer have that luxury if he saddles up in the Pac-10.

Haven't had partials in the WAC for several years, either. Many attribute that to Fresno's dropoff of late.

But he does have a decent graduation rate.

Lester, me loves talkin Cougs FB! A nice break from the SEC.

  6. Herring's coaching the bowl. Anything to this?

I'm guessing McFadden's agent will tell him it's a bad PR move.

  8. That's what I would assume as well but just checking all the same...

Ahh, there's some info I did not know. Makes a lot of sense.

Yes, God occassioanally blesses his lesser children (my Cougs) with interesting times. Sterk's been a fun AD to watch so this process should be entertaining.

That would be advisor, no? If he actually had an agent, wouldn't he be ineligible for the bowl?

Mike Hamilton is giving Fulmer an extension and raise. Tennessee won the East for the third time in seven years, and it lost a tiebreaker in the fourth. His team is stacked with young talent.

For better or worse, Fulmer isn't going anywhere unless he retires, which he won't do because of his stellar freshman class.
