Sounds like Arkansas will have to hire and fire Malzahn eventually, just to get the fans to shut up. Might as well get it over with.

This isn't even remotely near Notre Dame's search that landed them Charlie Weis, is it?

Arkansas is a top-20 job in both football and basketball, but there's too many cooks in the kitchen. Having dealt with people involved in the basketball search, it seems that Arkansas' biggest problem is that nobody knows who the fuck is in charge over there.

Oh, it's getting better and better. This has popped up on the most prominent Arkansas message board (posted by the father of a current player):

" Members of the team met with Long and White this evening. It basicly amounted to the Seniors who are not even going to be here next year and the defense pushing for Herring to be hired. London Crawford stood up to say he didn't care who the incoming HC will be, be it Malzahn or whoever, but that the current coaching staff needed to be cleared out competely and rebuild it from scratch. RoJo told LC to shut up and sit down. LC responded by telling RoJo that he's who needed to keep his nose out of it. He told Rojo he's a Senior, that this decision does not affect him but that it is something that affects LC. Long interjects by saying that the decision is purely his and that the boys opinions do not matter. London responded by asking Long if he had no concern for the players that this is an important decision that affects their lives. Long just had an aggrevated look on his face and did not reply. DJ Williams piped up and said as long as it was not Gus, because Gus couldn't assemble a staff. London told DJ that his only problem with Gus was knowing that he wouldn't be starting. The short of it is London thought he was going to a players only meeting for team members to express concerns and hash things out amongst themselves. He walked into a room where the AD to be and Chancelor of the school had been called to hear the nomination of the Junior MSM.
I can tell you what I know about the situation from last year. London was told during recruiting directly by Nutt, "I am not recruiting you because I need you when you are a Jr. and Sr.. I am recruiting you because I need you now. Save Monk, I don't have a receiver who can catch the ball. You will play early and often. You will be used heavily in the USC game if not start. Man, we are going to be running 3 and 4 wide-outs on the field all the time." Needless to say, none of this happened. When Damien and Mitch left, Nutt pulled London aside on the way to a team meeting and told him that he could not continue to be friends with them and still be loyal to Nutt. Also, London was constantly questioned by Nutt as to whether he was going to transfer. One time he was hauled into Nutt's office and grilled about it for 3 hours. Maybe this is where the constant reports of LC transferring came from.
Truth be known, I would prefer Gus be hired as HC. He was the only coach here who di not lied to London. London is not a whiner, griper or complainer, but he is tired of seeing favored players being habitually gimpy (2 years running) and sit out most of the practices but be right as rain on game day. I had never planned to divulge any of this, but it is just time.
For you source hounds out there I am LC's dad. I was sitting across the table from Nutt at a Longhorn Steakhouse in Mobile, AL when Nutt spoke those words directly. Wayne1958 is a moderator on here, I'm sure he will confirm who I am if you have doubts. London loves this university and loves the fans. Many of you have had personal contact with him and you know what kind of man he his. We are way more proud of him for who he is off the field rather than on it. For those of you who see the first paragraph as a young man standing up against the odds to right some wrongs and voice concern for his future, thank you. For those who see him and his family as whiny cry babies, that's fine too. You have a right to feel how you want. I can't tell you all the things that happened to other players and their families. For one, I do not know all of those things, more importantly, it's not my place. As for London, it was just finally time for a dad to say his peace. "

For those not familiar, Long is the new AD and White is the Chancellor. The term "Junior MSM" is a term that refers to Nutt's long time assistant coaches. These are the guys that came with him from Murray State and Boise State. Many Arkansas fans, due to the perceived shady character of a lot of the guys, have long called Nutt's long time assistants the "Murray State Mafia." Herring has only been around for a couple of years, so I suppose that's why the guy is referring to him as "Junior MSM."

Yeah, since a coach NEVER has lied to a kid.

    Never.

    Ever.

gotta love RoJo (Robert Johnson), who did absolutely nothing for five years, acting like he owns the place. I remember when he scored a meaningless touchdown against South Carolina and he spiked the ball like he was TO

I think what Nutt pulled last year went beyond just lying to a kid about playing time. He recruited several kids that could have gone ANYWHERE in the nation to play football on the premise that he was bringing in a new offensive coordinator to run an offense that would utilize their talents. If he had no intentions of running that type of offense, why lie to the most talented bunch of recruits to come out of Arkansas (Oh wait -- I know -- his job depended on it.)? I suspect he also lied to Malzahn about the type of offense he was going to run, too. But he was just a high school coach and they're just kids -- so it's okay to lie, right?

Why a network hasn't set a show inside big time college athletic department amazes me. Between the rumors of coach's affairs, run-ins with the law, boosters throwing their weight around, sportswriters getting accosted in press boxes, sex discrimination law suits and coach searches I think it would be an awesome show.
