Fucking SMU. Couldn't they have ponied up a few extra bucks and hired Johnson out there? Now he'll be triple optioning the ACC to 10-2 records and a berth in the Orange Bowl every other year.

Is there some rule against Paul Johnson changing the offense he runs? I imagine he ran the offense he ran at Navy because it was most suited to the players he had.

It was natural for Johnson to return to Georgia, after having so much success with Georgia Southern.

If SMU thinks that they can find some better that Johnson for a cheap rate, I would like to see it.

That would be my guess. He'll be able to adjust it to the type of players Tech can recruit. I don't fully expect him to toss the option aside. It can be a pretty good equalizer against a lot of teams.

It's not one of the top openings, but Mike Price apparently won't return to Washington State. Wouldn't mind seeing Wulff get a shot. John L. Smith would provide for some entertaining press conferences, though.

I had read somewhere that he had some major heart surgery since he took the UTEP gig, and came off as very sincere in his desire to stay in the desert.

I'll translate for Price: They had yet to call for an interview, so I'm going to say it before they do.

Bobby Johnson meeting tonight w/ Duke officials.

When he leaves Vandy, opening the door for Watson Brown's return, will we merge this thread with the Worst Coach thread???

Isn't any thread mentioning Watson Brown a worst coach thread?

Johnson had some looks at the end of the season that seemed to suggest "fuck it, I can't win in this league." I could see him leaving.

Two Johnsons in the ACC? Couldn't blame him, coaching against Tennessee, Georgia and Florida every freaking year kind of takes the fun out of things. You figure you go 4-0 (hopefully) against E. Scrub State and the like and your chance of a bowl game is based on who you draw from the SEC West.
