We continue to forget that Carr still hates Miles for trying to sway recruits away from Ann Arbor. Carr will never consent to having Miles come back.

Bill Martin had to call LSU to get permission. Michigan's problem is that they think that if they hire Miles, he could bring the official SEC book entitled "How to Cheat in the SEC Without Being Caught Right Away" with him to the Big 10 and start doing questionable things that could put Big Blue under the NCAA spotlight.

Michigan will never never consider Brian Kelly because one Joe Tiller is enough for this conference. They don't want two coaches chucking the pig up in the air all afternoon long. They'll settle for DeBord or English, hell maybe make one of them interim coach until UM finally finds the right guy.

Carr is the roadblock that's keeping Kelly or anyone else from getting this job.

Don't give out on Les Miles yet:

    By Mark Snyder
    Detroit Free Press
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Louisiana State coach Les Miles appears to be a Michigan coaching candidate again.
Miles had a phone conversation Friday morning with Michigan athletic director Bill Martin and school president Mary Sue Coleman, according to several people with knowledge of the call.
Michigan received permission Nov. 28 from LSU athletic director Skip Bertman to speak with Miles, as long as it was after the Dec. 1 SEC championship game. So asking LSU again for permission was not an issue; Michigan is believed to have initiated Friday’s call.

Curious as to how much Les' buyout is with the new deal?

If he goes to Ann Arbor, expect chaos in Baton Rouge.

That'd be sad and in poor taste by Bobby.
I listened to Falcons owner Art Blank last nite and he sounds sincere and optimistic about using a good formula to build a winner there. Everyone involved with the Falcs has been under duress with the Vick incident and there is to be expected a natural decline in returns there.
The days of the gold watch are over, I know, but a few of those folks ought to stay the course and try to resurrect things. Petrino, you'd think, owes them something for their investment.

The buyout remains at $1.25M, same as it was before.

Miles going to U-M shouldn't really ignite chaos in Baton Rouge than the announcement of Carr's retirement should have ignited anarchy in Ann Arbor.

It's been known Carr was thinking about retiring for several seasons now, and it's been known that Miles could be a logical successor (in the view of many) just as long. None of this should really catch anyone by surprise.

So....why did Miles sign the new deal then?

That would be just like Michigan. Waste resources and time by going after a man that has already signed a lucrative extension, instead of looking at other viable options.

Michigan does know that Miles really isn't the Blood-N-Guts offense guy that they want, right?

Brady Hoke or Ron English are waiting patiently by their phone. :D

Maybe Carr should stay the hell out of this.

    Why not bring in Kelly?

The recruiting almost certainly will be improved....you get a young, energetic, offense-minded coach that wants to throw it all over the state.

What the fuck does Michigan care? If Miles was willing to breach a contract with four seasons remaining on it, why would he hesitate to breach a contract with five seasons remaining on it (especially since the buyout figure has very pointedly remained the same) ?

He signed it because basically nothing changes other than adding a year and a few perks.

Among the coaches who might interest Duke: Ravens assistant Rick Neuheisel. Maybe we should start a Duke coaching pool?

Start a pool for when Duke goes on probation after they hire his slimy carcas.
