Who Will be the Next Coach at Notre Dame

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by YankeeFan, Nov 21, 2009.

  1. FWIW, the ND Rivals site reports that the Notre Dame players expect it to be Stoops. That Rivals site is solid, too, and not homer-ific.

I know it defies logic, but it really is starting to seem like it's going that way. If so, grand slam by Notre Dame.

Agreed. If they get Stoops, that's the coup of the decade.

If that's true, we may never hear of him again. Nobody's giving him an OC job except Belichick, and if he did it would be only out of pity, and if he did, once again he would be holding his hand 24/7.

QB coach or "offensive consultant" is his job ceiling, unless Belichick takes him on as a personal pity case. Everybody else has seen what he does with an offense left to his own devices.

Yet another reason he and his agents are going to want to wring every last blood-soaked nickel they can out of Notre Dame before they quietly go away. The big-money paydays are over.

Charlie Weis can certainly get a job in the NFL as an OC. Notre Dame's offense was not the problem this year. Clausen has improved by leaps and bounds since he was a freshman - I don't like the kid, but he was probably the best QB in college football this year. Weis can develop players and is a good play caller. If Notre Dame had an above average defense, the Irish would be in a BCS bowl.

If I had an NFL team with a young QB, Charlie Weis would be near the top of my list for potential OC hires.

If Mangini weren't already crabmeat, I think Weis would be given a coordinator job there. Anything he has up his sleeve is no worse than their current Pleistocene-era offensive philosophy. And the Patriots are basically still running his offense.

    Why?

Seems to me ND has a fan base, a potentially easy schedule, and, most importantly, shittons of $$$ to offer Stoops. A coup would be getting Belichick.

Maybe it some point these university rectors are going to realize that these would-be geniuses don't throw a pass or throw a block, and that players win games -- at any level of football. Nah.

Nothing like God on Earth like a fat-headed, fat-walleted college football coach, especially in the last 10 years. It needs to end.

You don't like him? Why? Or, do you just mean that you're not a fan?

I would like Stoops better if I had not watched him get out coached by Urban Meyer in BCS last year. Oka owned the fist half and blew it with bad play calling.

He's been a horseshit bowl coach for years.
    Good luck with that.

And a lot of people don't like Clausen because he's a Phil Rivers-calibre hothead.

I figured it was the sense of arrogant entitlement I can sniff from roughly 1,500 miles away.

Hey, I loved him +10 Saturday night because I figured he could keep them close against a soft
Tree pass defense. Still doesn't make him any less of a prime testosterone-overloaded geek.
