Who Will be the Next Coach at Notre Dame

I actually think Claussens hair is a slight step up from the shoulder-length Fabio thing he had going on last year. Remember that? Sheesh.

And as much of a ND fan that I am, in no way can I even begin to defend that picture of him. That is just plain hilarious. He looks like he should be saying "Oh be nice!" with a lisp as he flips his wrist forward. While I obviously root for him, he is indeed a tool. When he's an NFL rookie, the veterans are going to have an absolute field day with him.

Doesn't Stoops have it in his contract that he has to be the highest-paid coach? Why would you ever leave that? If Stoops was ever going to leave OU, it would have been to go to UF or the NFL.

  3. Maybe. You never know what's in someone's heart, though. We try to apply our own values on other people's decisions, and usually that works fairly well and is a fairly accurate predictive method, but if Stoops, a Catholic from Ohio, has some burning desire to turn around Notre Dame, then who are we to question it?

What is the general consensus among OU fans about Stoops? Is he generally well-received in Norman? OU has made some pretty awful showings in big bowl games under Stoops ... is he a god around campus or has he pretty much run his course there?

I think he's a bit overrated as a coach, but they'd have a hard time finding someone better.

Stoops, like Meyer, has an almost-perfect setup where he is at now, a setup he should retain unless he has 3-4 really dud seasons in a row (pretty unlikely given past performance). The only reason either one would go to ND would be if they really had a burning personal desire to, yes, coach at Notre Dame. (ND of course would have to come in with a competitive money offer.)

The "pressure" situation is IMO a wash. There would be plenty of pressure at either OU or UF if Stoops or Meyer's program really went in the tank.

  8. Don't you think guys get restless, though? Want to take on a new challenge? He's 49 and has accomplished about everything he can accomplish at Oklahoma. Although I'm trying to think of any similar move by a top-tier coach jumping ship from one member of his sport's royalty to another. Roy Williams is obviously one that jumps to mind, although he had ties to UNC so that was way different.

Oklahoma to Notre Dame would be a blockbuster jump that is unprecedented, as far as I can think. If you consider college football royalty to be Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Michigan and USC, Nebraska, maybe Miami, maybe FSU ... I can't think of anything comparable happening in the history of the sport. This would be huge.

I still think it'd be a lateral move at best if Stoops were to go there. This is a great setup for the Irish to once again not get their first choice.
