Who Will be the Next Coach at Notre Dame

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by YankeeFan, Nov 21, 2009.

  1. Just to be clear: The fact that Weis was a shitty coach doesn't make Willingham any better as a coach. I say that as I anticipate the rush of related columns over the next few days as if this somehow vindicates Willingham.

Weis won his first two years with as many of Bob Davie's players as he did Ty Willingham's.

I get the sense that once again the Irish are setting themselves up to be majorly disappointed. If they even want a chance at Stoops or someone of his caliber, they better be waving a $5 million annual paycheck with Saban-like control.

Which would make them different from any other set of college fans, boosters and alumni?

Still like Paul Johnson here. I think it's a great fit and would get them back to where they feel they belong.

These are the five toughest jobs in the country in my opinion...

    1. Notre Dame
    2. Alabama
    3. Florida
    4. Nebraska
    5. Ohio State

Notre Dame hasn't played for a national title in 20 years. Yet the expectations are still there that anything short of 10-2 and playing in a BCS bowl is a colossal disappointment. Add that to the academic restrictions and it's without question the toughest job in the country.

Johnson is probably the way I would go too. I just wonder if that would please the alumni.

The sheer size and scope of the broad, national
    backseat-driver contingent, methinks.

Think Johnson would do the best job -- if he's
able to lure the specific kind of talent which fits
    his offense.

This is why some coaches may leave "better" jobs for Notre Dame. If you can turn ND back into a contender, you will be seen by many as the best coach in the country. Vanity is my favorite vice.

Can't ever see Dungy even being interested in this job. He seems to like his nice, relaxed, TV commentator life.

Can't hurt to ask. They would have a definite pipeline to get to him through NBC.
