Who Will be the Next Coach at Notre Dame

Maybe the problem isn't that Notre Dame's recruiting is down, it's that Catholic high schools that used to be a pipeline to the Dome, aren't recruiting as well as they used to.
    I'm only half-joking.

The born-again schools are stealing all the good Tebows!

Meyer recruited Harvin and Tebow. Without them, they dont win that first title. Zook's recruiting is very overrated - he gets guys with stars next to their name but does a horrible job of balancing classes (not to mention that he and his recruiting obsessed staffs can't coach worth a damn).

Meyer will not, under any circumstances, be an ND candidate.

  4. bullshit to the highest order.....Florida would've won that title with or without Tebow.....remember Chris Leak? Without HIM, Florida doesn't win that first title

Cretin-Derham Hall - home of Joe Mauer, Paul Molitor, the Walsh boys and Notre Dame's Michael Floyd - reclaimed their top spot in Minnesota this year, knocking off perennial empire Eden Prairie (coached by Bud Grant's kid, Mike) in the title game. The comments section in the strib always devolves into people bitching about Eden Prairie's enrollment vs. those complaining about Cretin's recruiting efforts.

I'm confused. Is HIM, God, Tebow or Leak?

Good point here. I recall 20 years ago, when I was in high school, Chicago-area powerhouses like Mount Carmel and Joliet Catholic probably could have beaten some D-III college teams.

Needless to say, Notre Dame usually had its pick of the talent at those schools. Don't know if that's true anymore.

It's probably just a coincidence, but Notre Dame football's decline almost mirrors the rise in awareness of priest abuse cases. And it isn't like Boston College has torn it up in that time span either.

Yes, it's just a coincidence. The Catholic church isn't hurting for money.

The fact that it's easier and cheaper to recruit out of states and that playing for mid-majors now allows for exposure has hurt Notre Dame. Why go to South Bend and sit for three years when you can go to Ball State and start right away and still play on TV.

  10. Um, the problem is not that they are losing kids to Ball State. You understand that, right? Because that's a new one.

And Ball State's not on TV.
