Who Will be the Next Coach at Notre Dame

I wish they were all independents. I used to love it when Miami and Penn State and Notre Dame had the freedom to pick which bowls they could go to and how perfectly it worked when Miami and Penn State played in that great Fiesta Bowl all those years ago.

What would have happened if Cincinnati made the BCS title game?

I mean, it wasn't that far off from happening - if Texas doesn't get that extra 1 second or if that field goal keeps hooking at the end, they lose to Nebraska.

At that point, Kelly couldn't leave with his team about to play for a national championship ... right? And, to take it a step further, what if UC wins the BCS game?

So, it's safe to say that the abortion issue that the Domers had with Kelly has become a non-issue now? To me, ND may have had a problem with it, but they won't give a damn about that if and when Kelly makes them a powerhouse again.

Mike Greenberg brought that up on Mike & Mike this morning. His point, which I agree with, was that Kelly would have had to stay at least through the bowl game and Notre Dame would have had to look elsewhere.

Yeah, would have been another Les Miles situation.

If Hunter Lawrence misses that field goal Randy Edsall is now the coach at Notre Dame.

As a Cincy fan, I wanna be pissed off at Kelly. I really do.

But, what was he supposed to do, realistically? He's a guy that was coaching Grand Valley State six years ago. ND, his dream gig, comes calling. No matter the situation, he's got to say yes. Yeah, I've got a case of the redass today, but I'm guessing that by the time next season rolls around, I'll be happy to watch Kelly and the Irish every Saturday. If nothing else, ND games will be fun to watch with his offense.

So, I wish him well even though I wish his stay with the Bearcats had been longer.

yeah, there's no way to argue that ND isn't a step up -- money, prestige, etc; nothing against Cincy -- so I have a hard time feeling sympathy for UC fans who are angry. My alma mater is likely to lose their coach who has done well, and he'll end up at a bigger school, and that's the way it goes.

I've always wondered why the Big East even bothers with ND to begin with. Without complete membership (football), the Irish really add nothing, and can poach a decent bowl from a full-time member.

Nobody cares about women's basketball and soccer, the two sports ND excels in. And while ND basketball is certainly competitive, the Big East can easily stand on its own in that sport without the Irish.
