Who Will be the Next Coach at Notre Dame

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by YankeeFan, Nov 21, 2009.

  1. They're kids. They don't understand yet. They'll all leave jobs some day, too, for better opportunities.

Yet another reason why it's so ridiculous to have the bowl games 6 weeks after the regular season. The fact that a coach would lead his team to such a big game and then not even stick around to coach in it speaks volumes about how meaningless the bowl season is. Hard to knock on Kelly because opportunity is opportunity. Maybe the NCAA should install a hiring freeze until the bowl season ends.

God I wish college football could be fixed

Why couldn't Notre Dame wait. They waited longer for Weis. Oh, wait...

  4. My question is whether Cincy would have let him stay on? Seems odd to be recruiting for one team and coaching another. Too distracting. Weis' situation seemed a little bit different because that was the NFL. No conflict of interest. Cincinnati and Notre Dame probably recruit some of the same kids. I don't know that there's any precedent for a coach staying on for a bowl game after he's taken another job?

That's a good question, Waylon. I'm sure someone on the board who isn't as lazy as I am will do the searching needed for an answer. Cincinnati area is a big ND recruiting zone.
PS: While I think leaving the way Kelly has is weak, if I WAS a Cincinnati player, I'd want to see his ass out the door and on to the Interstate ASAP. Fuck him. We'll beat Florida without him, then Notre Dame won't look so smart.

  6. Did you think it was weak when Rodriguez left WV for Michigan? They had a BCS game to play.

Yes, I did. But I'll admit to a prejudice. In my day job, I once had to read like a dozen articles on offensive football written by Rodriguez in a coaching journal. Oh, God it was awful.

You're right. My bad. And that even further pushes along my point.

That's exactly where I was when Kelly left Central. It's America. Can't blame him for chasing a dream.

Crazy to think about, but it's true. At the very least, it wouldn't be Kelly.

Little things like that are intriguing to ponder. The fate of a coach's dream hanging off the foot of a kicker.
