Who Will be the Next Coach at Notre Dame

The ghost of Bo Schembechler says a Cincinnati man should coach Cincinnati.

So the Cincy players can't understand why their coach would leave a Big East school with a small fan and alumni base for Notre Dame? They need to grow the hell up. Life is full of little disappointments.

That said, I wish the NCAA would release kids whose coaches leave for other jobs, with the caveat that they can't transfer to the school their former coach is going to.

The guy lied to them. They made decisions that will affect their lives based on his promises.

What decisions did they make in the last two weeks that would "affect their lives?" Because that's about how long this process went on.
If Kelly promised them he'd be there four years when he recruited, well, shame on their parents or high school coach for not telling them how the world works.
Yeah, the messed-up recruiting system means Kelly's got to jump now. And yeah, it sucks for Cincy. But what smart, ambitious person would turn down the chance for twice as much money to do their job on the biggest stage there is? You can't blame him for this.

And Boom, as for "plain vanilla:" They did reach higher, to Stoops, Meyer and Ferentz. None took the bait (and can you blame them?). Kelly's as good as ND was going to get. If it's him or Edall, he's the guy you want.

I can't blame him for jumping now.

I can blame him for saying he wouldn't and then doing it.

Did he say he wouldn't take the ND job?

I thought so. I could be wrong, in which case I apologize.

Pretty sure he never came out pulled a Saban. Just said he didn't want to talk about it, as far as I know.

Edit: He did, however, say, "Nobody doesn't like Notre Dame."

He shouldn't be congratulated for it. If these guys want to demonstrate the 'character' they bloviate about so much, they can start by telling the hiring school to set aside the 30 pieces of silver and wait a few weeks, pretty please.

I don't see it far different than what Petrino did. They both literally tucked tail and quit. It's as purely selfish and unprofessional as you or I not giving notice to someone who paid and treated us very well for our services.

Didn't Petrino leave with something like three games left? That's worse, IMO, than a college coach leaving with only the bowl game left on the schedule. The players were screaming that it was them, not the coach, that made that team successful. Now, they get a chance to prove it against Florida.

My problem with Kelly is that before and after the Pitt game, he used the "Let's focus on the team" line to avoid answering questions about ND. He basically used his players to keep the heat off him, then bailed on them a few days later.
