Yeah, and to make matters worse, everyone knows aliens don't look like people. God, have none of the producers seen that alien documentary on the History Channel? It had that black guy from Fresh Prince and that white guy from Man of the House. I can't remember the name but I remember there was a dog who could speak named Frank. ::)

Maybe there is a reason they prefer edged weapons. We haven't seen all of their technology yet.

Maybe the guy in the wheelchair was doing it for dramatic effect. He certainly seemed to be enjoying showing off his new-found health.

The part about the kid needing to be 18 makes perfect sense. Remember, the Visitors are focused on public relations. Part of that is doing little things like that to demonstrate the respect they don't have for humans.

I have enjopyed what I've seen so far, though I'm not completely sold.

Point by point (and piggybacking off of OOP's points):

The edged weapons were for two reasons:

    - TV budget. The old weekly series minimized laser blasts because each one cost $600. It hindered storytelling.
    - If the Visitors were to use lasers or any other projectile weapon based on their technology, there would be evidence of advanced technology being used to slaughter people. Edged weapons are quieter, and leave no trace. Even the flying globe shot blades. I would guess the Visitors have no doubt about their superiority in hand-to-hand combat.
    - Showing up in the wheelchair was more dramatic, both for the characters and the viewer.
    - Requiring parental permission slips is a pretty obvious way to present the idea that they aren't here to disrupt our society. "We understand your concern about your youth. We want the parents to support our cause too." Two, or three, for the price of one.
    - I don't like the shortening to "Visitors" to "Vs" either. Especially for a newsman.

Baccarin is a stone cold fox.

I am disappointed with this show as the weeks go by but am hopeful that the pacing is deliberate. It is ploddy in spots. Plus I am/was such a geek for the miniseries and it reminds me of a very happy time in life.

It is a little slow in spots. I think the bigger problem is the large break in the schedule after this week's episode. I just wonder if the show is established enough yet to get away with that.

Can't believe I missed the other Firefly connection with Alan Tudyk (FBI Agent Dale Maddox, Erica's partner who turned out to be V). He played the ship's pilot and Baccarin played a "companion."

One action set piece in the first three hours. That screams something, and it's not good for a sci-fi show.

I am willing to be patient, but the reason the original miniseries built some sense of cultural lastingness was because of a few very powerful images. This show has not had that.

Maybe, I wasn't sure what Hondo meant. I am also aware that it was unknown that Ryan was a V but that doesn't mean that Ryan hadn't previously helped his friend obtain the information that V's were reptiles.

At least they had some fireworks at the end of season one. And with a break that long (the show is gone until March), they might as well just consider this a really short first season.

A bit of a surprise with the priest at the end. Maybe they will actually have the guts to have it turn out for the worst, though I sincerely doubt it.

I recently purchased the entire V series for 12 bucks. It wasn't that bad. The best part of the series was Howard K. Smith's Freedom Network reports. Which I remember as being the best part of the show back then.

When it comes back in March, I don't think I'll be watching.
I was bored with this mini-run.
The girls are hot but the pacing is dull and the writing is awful.
"They are getting us through the flu shots because the media has us all so gullible because of the pandemics they are reporting."
    Foes real? Dumb and Dumberer.
Some of the things, like the edged weapons, I figure are a concession because of the special effects budget. And also, an edged weapon in the right spot would kill a human, but maybe not a V. That way they could be captured and tortured or whatever.
So I'm not bothered by that, but it is a little like Walker Texas Ranger and when the various criminals would drop their automatic weapons so they could get in a karate fight with Chuck Norris.

    Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaacccccckkkkkkkkk.

Watched last night and the best part for me was the Scrubs commercial where Zach Braff says, "By the way, these guys are lizards."

    The first episode I liked.
The second episode, I thought the acting was horrid.
The third episode, I thought the writing was terrible.
The fourth episode, I thought the direction was lacking.

I'm not as thrilled with it as I was after the first two episodes, but it's still better than most of what's on television.

When they bring it back in March, are they going to put it against NCIS and American Idol? That would be idiotic.
