They were talking about this on ESPN radio this morning. The theory being the fans should be rooting for Steve Zell to get control of the company. From what little I've read, he sounds like an interesting guy. The theory being that having one guy be the face of team ownership, particularly a local guy, is a good thing.

    Anybody know more about Zell?

I know he owns a piece of the White Sox and has already said he's selling the Cubs as a result. You can't have stake in two teams per MLB rules.

Oh, so he's putting the Cubs right back out on the market if this deal goes through? That's what I get for listening to Steve Phillips on the radio. He was insisting that he talked to people in the Cubs' organization who were rooting for Zell to buy the team. Clueless as usual.

According to what was in the Trib this morning he's selling the Cubs and keeping his stake in the Sox.

Sad that I trust an anonymous poster on a message board more than I do Steve Phillips. Probably good judgement on my part, but sad.

    Make Cuban the morning-line favorite.

    Michael Jordan.

  10. If for no other reason than to stick it to the Nuttings/McClatchy for not letting him buy in on the Pirates when he inquired. Of course, past history has proven that spending bunches of money in Chicago doesn;t get the job done.

Someone with a shitload of money who is willing to give those fans the winner they deserve ... hopefully.

    Ehh. Screw 'em.

Maybe Bud Selig should get back in the ownership biz.
