Jason David replaces Fred Thomas at corner. That one change is a vast improvement with how brutal Thomas played.

Pats. Call me a fanboy, but they are stacked. Best D-Line in the league in my view (Seymour, Warren, Wilfork, Jarvis Green, Le Kevin Smith (who has looked excellent in preseason and camp), Kareem Brown, Mike Wright). A very deep, talented, and young offensive line who know the system. Probably the best collection of receivers in the league from top to bottom (Moss, Stallworth, Welker, Gaffney, Caldwell, Washington, Watson at TE, Troy Brown after Week 6). Brady at QB. Talented vets (albeit aging; Bruschi is basically done) at linebacker (with Oscar Lua being groomed) and a solid secondary bolstered by Samuel's return plus James Sanders emerged as a good safety late last year, Randall Gay and Eugene Wilson are finally healthy, Meriweather is so versatile, and Rodney Harrison has dominated during much of the preseason. I'm most worried about the RB position but if all goes as planned the WR's will open up holes for Maroney, who has to stay healthy. I'm not sold on Sammy Morris yet, even as a second option.

Well played, Inky. You beat me to it.

It's funny. I know one other Seahawks fan and he can't stop whining about the Super Bowl defeat from a YEAR AND A HALF AGO either. Face it. Ben Roethlisberger shit the bed most of the night and the Seahawks played so badly that day that they failed to take advantage. An entire season has gone by since. It's time to get over it.

I'd have to say Patriots on the poll. Even if Moss doesn't pan out, adding Stallworth and Welker should help upgrade a very weak group of receivers. Though if Thomas really did gain too much weight, that could be a problem.

  4. Ultimately, I'm going with the Bolts. Rivers is a hometown guy, so I gotta back a brutha (thanks, Hulk) up.

I'm surprised the Seahawks aren't on the list. Says here they are ahead of the Saints and Cowboys. However, problems on the o-line and d-backfield will hold them back.

    I'm going with the Pats.

I'll say this, if there was ever a time for Norv Turner to clear his name and show he's a good coach, this year's Charger team is it. I'm not sold on the matter, but the Chargers are set up to be great this year.

The Bears have QB problems. Dallas? With Bum's son? No way, Jose. I think the Colts will struggle with replacing some of the good players outside of their passing offense.

The Pats have made a lot of good moves this year, and the Saints didn't lose anyone key. They don't have the element of surprise anymore either, but those two teams could be a lot of fun to watch. Especially the Saints, if Sean Payton can get them to improve on last year.

I'm rethinking my Cowboys vote for NFC.

Romo will be fine, but he's not the problem.

Four of their best-performing players (Greg Ellis, Terence Newman, Flozell Adams, Terry Glenn) have suspiciously lingering injuries. Newman's plantar fascia tear is a killer. The Cowboys went in the tank after Ellis went down last November and other than Ware, have zero pass rush. If Adams or Colombo aren't a go, there will probably be a rookie starting at left tackle on Sept. 9.

    Gulp.

Excellent advice re getting over it. And totally unrealistic. Do you believe, oop, that Bostonistas or Pittsboogers, for example, would have given up griping by now under similar circumstances?

Some people are natural born ref baiters, and others aren't. If you're in the latter group, it's a hatin' thing, you wouldn't understand. :)

I would expect to be told to STFU if I was still griping this much later.

True, unless you lived west of the Cascades, where you would be encouraged to keep on preachin' the gospel.
