Wow. Powerful story. Have you undergone therapy?

  2. In cases like this... I alwasy think about the California daycare incident/witch hunt. It's a stark reminder of the point you bring up ...

But in Conlin's incidents, that doesn't appear to be the case. Four kids - not one- accused him. Based on the story, it doesn't appear he's innocent of these charges - based on other family members stating he cried and begged for forgiveness when confronted.

I had a longer response to this, but seems pretty clear we're about to have yet another thread dominated by the witless wisdom of Drip. So instead I'll just quote one of favorite posts ever to appear on this site:

I'll ask one more time: What in your career have you done to merit the notoriety of a Bill Conlin? Judging from your response, I'm going to guess that you have less than a decade of experience. I'm also going to surmise that you have never lived in the Delaware Valley so you really don't have a clue about what I'm talking about. This guy was respected and highly regarded by many.

Whoa. As someone who comes off as an expert on every 2,500-daily opening in southwestern North Dakota, that's a really shaky pedestal you're standing on there.

In Drip's defense, he has always been the biggest Conlin fanboi on this site, by a longshot.

The fact that he's come around as far as he has on this story is an accomplishment.

If we can all just ignore the sidebar and press on, I'll ask this: What now? For the paper? For Conlin? For the victims?

News organizations should get this right, of course, but to the average fan I'm not sure there's much distinction. Obviously they know the writers/broadcasters didn't play, but honorees got an award on the steps at Cooperstown and now they're in the building forever. That's pretty much HOF to the average fan. Just saying.

Misuse of "notoriety." Look it up. It is not an automatic substitute for "fame."

Well, the paper will continue to join the rest of us in the slow march to death.

I'll let the rest to others.

Not much. This is not a story with a satisfying conclusion. It just ... is.

I have never proclaimed to be an expert on anything. That's your view, not mine. However, I do have first-hand knowledge of life in the Delaware Valley.
