This is very possible and, frankly, I'm a little torn here.

Would it be better if there were a more recent victim on whom the statute of limitations hasn't been reached? Conlin might face justice, but it would mean he victimized at least one more person.

I haven't taken a poll but I'd say its a lot more than that.

That's one of the reasons the Hall decided to add a Saturday ceremony this year and honor the award winners on a separate day from the actual Hall of Famers. The distinction was getting lost because too many people -- most especially, the award winners and their employers -- kept referring to the award winners as "Hall of Famers." They're not.

Oh, and another point of clarification -- the area with the Spink and Frick award plaques is not in the same building as the Gallery where the Hall of Famers are enshrined. It's in the library, which is a separate building (twenty-three years ago, when I first visited, you had to exit the museum to get to the library, but they're connected by a hallway now.) I realize it's all "Cooperstown" to the average person who hasn't been there. But that's no excuse for news organizations to say "ahh, nobody cares anyway."

EDIT: For those who are interested, here's a great explainer on the myth of the "writers' wing" from former HOF Library research associate Gabe Schechter: http://seamheads.com/2010/08/23/a-wing-and-a-player/

Every 1A article in today's Inquirer was written by a woman. Have they surpassed us in news coverage?

Easiest way to clarify the "Hall of Fame" confusion is to discontinue the practice of writers voting for the hall and the hall voting for writers.

Trouble is, that confusion benefits everyone until something like this happens.

I'm curious about everyone's take on this question: Would you rather another victim, on whom the statute of limitations has not run out, come forward and see Conlin face justice, or would you rather this disgusting behavior was limited to assaulting no more than the victims who have come forward?

I'm more interested to know which legendary sports columnist will be outed next. You know that many in our industry are sleazoids. Free food, strip clubs on road trips. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to find out a few who took advantage in preps coverage.

Are you a legendary sports columnist?

Just wondering where you got your background.

Otherwise, the SOB got away with it.
These are just allegations, which aren't always true.

I'd be way more on the side of hoping he stopped himself when he got caught in the neighborhood. Hate to think there was decades more of this.

In addition, I think these cases can be very difficult to prosecute, so an allegation that's 10 or 15 years old may not lead to that justice you're seeking anyway.

Shot, like it or not, Conlin was a renowned baseball columnist. His take on other sports wasn't the greatest but his knowledge on seamball was pretty much without question.
