I am able to hold two competing thoughts/sentiments/feelings on this matter at the same time:

    1. I have been reading Bill Conlin's work since his days at the Phila Evening Bulletin in the 1960s and I have enjoyed reading his reporting and his columns. I think he is a gifted writer - - whether or not I agree with him on whatever the topic of his column may be. I am sorry that his resignation from the Philly Daily News means that I will not be able to read his columns any more. My enjoyment in reading his writings may or may not coincide with any one else's reaction to reading those same writings, but I am entitled to my own opinion on what I enjoy.

    2. Anyone who serially molests children is a person who deserves public scorn and ridicule - - and jail time if the legal system allows for prosecution and conviction. It does not matter to me if that person is a gifted writer, a star running back, a great relief pitcher, a virtuoso on the bassoon or a clergyman. Child molestation is not to be tolerated.

I will miss Bill Conlin's writings. If he did what he is alleged to have done, I wish for him a tortured existence for the rest of his days on the planet...

And they shouldn't care. Not even for a second. Your child comes first, before anything and everything. No way in hell I would have let it go. None.

Don't disagree, but that era, it's not uncommon. My mother knows it all to well, and she lived her whole life resenting her parents because they didn't get justice for her. Horrible.

I admire Poin's consistency: Ragging on newspapers and Plaschke in 2008, doing the same now. Always love someone being so blithe about the body count.

I agree 100 percent. I basically have been saying the same thing and actually had someone here questioning if I wished the victims had stayed quiet. I'm still shaking my head with that one.
I truly wish there were some older posters around here who remember his work in the early days at the Bulletin and Daily News. In my opinion, he was one of the better baseball beat reporters in the country.

Sports Reporters is on now. You'll be subjected to William Rhoden, Bob Ryan and Jemele Hill if you watch.

UPDATE: Rhoden brought up the Penn State and Syracuse scandals in his 'parting shot', but said nothing about Conlin.
