    RON ZOOK!

He knows the SEC and he knows how to recruit. Plus, he's beaten Auburn.

well i know it's a dead period but there is a reason schools rush to fill their vacancies, even if it's a dead period. it doesn't look good.

After bungling the last four hires, maybe they ought to take their time with this one. What's more important -- avoiding one compromised recruiting class or finding the best available hire?

This from the raving lunatics who track planes...

A plane associated with Bama (N75TP) called the Crimson Excel flew from Tuscaloosa to Drake Field [Fayetteville, Arkansas] Thursday morning, then flew to Chattanooga briefly before landing in Tuscaloosa and spending the afternoon there. The plane then went back to Fayetteville and only was on the ground 15 minutes (just long enough to drop someone off). This was the day, you might recall, that Houston Nutt decided to cancel practice because "practice was going so well". The same plane landed in West Virginia a couple of days before Rodriquez was offered the Bama job. Many people, including me, think this is too much of a coincidence and that Nutt interviewed and took a trip to Tuscaloosa to meet with representatives from the university.

Where they are definitely losing ground is putting a staff together. Unless whoever their new coach is has a group of guys he brings in with him, the candidate possibilities are going to be pretty picked over for the assistant spots.

I am scared that you even knew where to look for that...

All you have to do is look at one of the Bama message boards. It's disturbingly easy to find.

The correct name of the plane, though, is Bear Force One. I thought we'd established that.

Doesn't everyone realize this is the greatest job in college football? :)

On the Independence Bowl telecast, Andre Ware just advocated that Joe Kines should get the job if he leads Bama to a comeback win in this prestigious bowl. They just tied it, and I think I see Mal creeping up the sideline with a contract and a pen ...

i know you guys are cracking on the fans who track planes -- but if you're a reporter on a college beat, you sure as hell better have those skills. helped me a shitton in my last coaching search, especially when i showed up at the private airport and greeted the ad as he was getting off that plane

Mow that you made that post, this kind of reminds me of a couple years ago when Nebraska had trouble finding someone to replace Solich.
