Because it is insulting when used cynically to imply black Americans haven't taken adequate advantage of opportunities to which hey've been denied equal access through racism in all the usual varieties -- overt, institutional, insidious -- for multiple generations. There is no comparison for the black experience in the United States.

So maybe we should let African Americans open up casinos.

We should definitely switch to Socialism, where there are no winners and all losers. That's definitely a lot fairer.

Oh, don't kid yourself. There are plenty of winners in socialism. How said winners are picked is something that's not talked about in "progressive" circles.

So very true. Blacks experienced horrendous treatment in America since reconstruction in greater orders of magnitude that no other group experienced. And in the last 50 years no other group has been both the intentional and direct beneficiary of government spending, programs and actions, in greater orders of magnitude, than any other group.
And many Americans who had nothing to do with the repression of blacks in this country, due to a lack of economic and political power or their physical absence from this country, are getting frustrated with the lack of progress blacks have made and the disproportionate share of government attention they receive.

You almost sound like you believe racism just magically stopped and that blacks are no longer being repressed.

The ability to stake out the moral high ground with rhetoric that even the most charitable observer would consider sophomoric is a heckuva accomplishment, DW. Those years spent in that fraternity lounge sure served you well. Tell me, in that LSAT prep course you took, did the slur seminar cost extra?

Racism exists. As does xenophobia, anti-Semitism, and religious bias. Repression? I am open to an argument that shows blacks in this country are repressed. But I don't see legal repression of blacks.

I respectfully apologize. I read that blacks have been given everything, and I had an emotional reaction.
