    Dashed to the first showing at a rundown theatre in our college town at 2 PM on Friday. Buddy of mine illegally parked in front of the English department building so I could jump in the car. Got there and it was us and three older people who I presume had no idea what was about to transpire. We all sat there, grinning and mouths agape, for 2 1/2 hours. I still remember the pretzel I got at 7/11 afterward. Can't even count how many times we saw it thereafter at the campus movie theatre, where I swear it played every weekend for $1 per showing through the spring of 1996.

    I was miserable watching that entire movie … and I love musicals. Just awful. And 17 hours long, I believe.
