Why does the Triple Crown seem underhyped?

Most feared is not a canard. If they are in the same lineup, based on their numbers of the last two months -- and their overall RISP and late&close numbers for the season -- there is a good chance you'd walk Cabrera to pitch to Trout. The reverse would never happen.

Taking on-field production out of the equation, a 10-year perennial all-star is almost always more valuable than a rookie to the rest of a team.

Sorry, but casty does know more than "the average American male" sitting around watching games. Just because he chooses to evaluate the game differently than you doesn't change that.

You think he is too stubborn in how he looks at the game, but you don't realize Rick is every bit as bad, if not worse? Or you just favor Rick's side of the discussion, so you support him regardless.

And your comparison to players doesn't hold up. Athletes do have inside knowledge that nobody will ever have, but they also have biases and allegiances from their playing days and they are often to close to things to offer a valid opinion. As a reporter, our jobs are to gather information and share it. We are supposed to accumulate some expertise and turn to others who know more when we need it. You should know that, JC.

Believe it or not, there is something to be said for respecting the opinions of someone who's been there and done that more than you.

Baseball is simply too complicated to understand deeply just by watching it. Covering 30 years of games doesn't automatically make you an expert anymore than hanging out at airports for 30 years would make you qualified to design and build an airplane.

There is a difference, you know, between respecting an opinion and being told it's automatically right because of whose it is.

Nobody said that, but you'd rather post before reading carefully as usual. Rick dismissed casty's opinion as if he was just some fan who watched the game. He wasn't respecting a well-educated opinion of somebody who knows more about the game than he does.

Baseball is too complicated to understand deeply without making proper use of observation as well as statistical analysis. That's the part that you don't seem to get.

And your comparison is a joke. If you think all a baseball writer does is hang out at the park, you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about.

I actually completely agree. The people who really understand baseball watch a shit-ton of it. But that's not the same as saying watching a shit-ton of it means you understand it.

Writers do their jobs: they file interesting, compelling copy.

Don't do that sigh crap. LTL is completely right.

Having looked at Cabrera's stats, he is well on the way to the Hall. More than 100 RBI for 9-10 seasons in a row, career average of .318. That doesn't just happen randomly

That is not the entire job. Again, if you don't realize that, you don't know what you are talking about.
