"For everywhere we look, there is work to be done. The state of our economy calls for action, bold and swift. And we will act, not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together. We'll restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology's wonders to raise health care's quality and lower its cost. We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories. And we will transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age. All this we can do. All this we will do"

Is that a plan or a prediction?

Let's see. One mispoke. The other wants to pass laws telling everyone how to live their lives according to their own personal beliefs.

    Yep, apt comparison there.

The conversation becomes so reductive when we start using some isolated phrase or incident and blowing that out into summary statements.

So, the GOP doesn't want abortion banned, or gay marriage banned, or gays being banned from adopting children?

What's interesting to me is how the Republicans have harnessed the idea of the American Dream and have convinced people to act against their short-term interest for their economic future.

So while the GOP won't raise taxes on billionaires, they will raise taxes on working class people (as they did last night) and the gamble is that in doing so you won't send the offended working class people to the polls and voting for Obama or any other Democratic nominee.

But since the GOP sells the idea that anyone can and will be a millionaire someday, people will still vote Republican.

So, do you think anyone who is not a millionaire who votes republican is an idiot?

What's Al Gore's opinion on these tax cuts? Aren't we "raiding the Social Security lock box?"

There are plenty of people who vote Republican not because they believe they will get rich, but because they support the party's positions on social issues and/or national defense.

Starman, you are right about the Republicans wanting to legislate morality. This is why I have no use for them. But I cannot accept the line of thinking that \\\"The Democrats do not harp on morality, so they get a pass on immoral behavior.\\\" I just cannot look at things that way. We are all adults, responsible for our own actions. If we get caught cheating, sending pictures of our schlong to some web bimbo or tapping our foot under the toilet stall it does not matter what party we are from. Whoever is involved in those things is not fit for public service, regardless of their political affiliation. Turning a blind eye to one party while jumping on the other for the same thing is the true definition of hypocricy.

    PS. Throw them all out.
