Why is it OK to pronounce Mexico "Me-hi-co" on TV?

I think it's OK to promounce it Me-hi-co because you always try to get it close as possible to correct. The closest way to pronounce Puerto Rico is Pwer-tow Rico rather than Poor-to Rico. In books from the 1890s, it was written Porto Rico. I would say as knowledge increases, things change. If you are pronouncing the names correctly, it would seem awkward to go back and pronounce the "X" in Mexico.

You always make the best effort to get it right.

I always thought the correct way to pronounce Iran was "e-ran" rather than "I-ran"
