One of the reasons for not running up the score, even in the pros, is it increases the likelihood of injury and fighting. The losing team gets embarrassed and starts taking cheap shots, the winning team retaliates and next thing you know, you've got a brawl. Even if you don't care about sportsmanship, rubbing the opponent's nose in it is just stupid and dangerous.

Not only that, but running up the score the week before the biggest regular season game in years? All it takes is one cheap shot and you could either:

    a) Be without someone next week due to injury.
    b) Be without someone next week due to suspension.

This Redskins game was basically a prep for the Indy matchup.

Belichick can't take the starters out every time the Pats get a huge lead. There'd be backups playing by halftime or so almost every game.

And if a team doesn't like the score? Beat 'em. This is football. Hit em as hard as you can and stop bitching. It's pathetic.

Please. Coach Hoodie could plant land mines on the other team's sideline and you'd try to justify it.

The 85 Bears mauled people defensively. They didn't have the kind of offense the Patriots do.

The only absolute start-to-finish ass-kicking I remember in the regular season that year was the one they laid on the Cowboys.

I mean you would think the Pats were forced to use a wide receiver to play defensive back or something crazy like that in the past.

He would probably videotape just to make sure where they step.

They beat the falcolns 36-0, the Redkins 45-10 and the Lions 24-3 & 37-17.

NFC Divisional Playoff: won 21 - 0 vs. New York Giants
NFC Championship Game: won 24 - 0 vs. Los Angeles Rams

Bostonbred, you've got to be the most egregious fanboy apologist on this site.

Its not like he's only leaving the starters in. There's a difference between that and the shit Belichik's been doing all year, like going for it on 4th down and throwing fly patterns when you're up by 30-something in the final minutes, or as in the cowboys game, taking the ball on a final possession when nearly anyone else would've simply tried to run out the clock and instead kept throwing just to get one more meaningless TD to rub it in.

I would say the aftermath of the Browns dropping Bradshaw on his head was pretty impressive as well.

    1 at Oakland Raiders L 28-31
    2 Cleveland Browns W 31-14
    3 New England Patriots L 27-30
    4 at Minnesota Vikings L 6-17
    5 at Cleveland Browns L 16-18
    6 Cincinnati Bengals W 23- 6
    7 at New York Giants W 27- 0
    8 San Diego Chargers W 23- 0
    9 at Kansas City Chiefs W 45- 0
    10 Miami Dolphins W 14- 3
    11 Houston Oilers W 32-16
    12 at Cincinnati Bengals W 7- 3
    13 Tampa Bay Buccaneers W 42- 0
    14 at Houston Oilers W 21- 0

Can you guess which game Bradshaw got hurt?

Also, the Steelers started a rookie qb named Kruczek who threw zero TD passes for the next six games.

...and proceeded to get their asses handed to them by the Raiders in the playoffs, though that was without Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier, who were both hurt.

... but destroyed the Colts the game before.

I think the Steelers only had one healthy RB for that game.
