Just remember: We need to have sports. And we need to have our kids back in school. Immediately. Nobody gets this Wuhan flu, but kids really, really don't get it. Six to eight new cases per day in kids in St. Louis. But we've got to have high school footbawwwwl.

Coaching search firms are the biggest racket in college sports.

Quite a story. Thousands and thousands of words but an interesting look at the concentric circles of the consultant racket.

Our county had its highest daily case total this week, although positive rate is still generally a good 3.5 percent, and the school district shut down summer workouts because of multiple positives among players. We're certainly not the hardest hit area in the world by any means, but I'm starting to think we're getting closer to another lockdown than widespread sports in the fall. I've long thought our local youth baseball league had about a 50-50 chance of finishing the season, which is now about a third done after a delay in starting, but kind of thinking the odds aren't that good any more.

There are also a lot of coaches who coach different sports in different seasons. A football or soccer coach, head or assistant, might coach basketball, wrestling or hockey in the winter or baseball. softball, track or lacrosse in the spring. They'd be missing out on some paychecks if the seasons shifted.

Rose Parade cancelled. What are the odds of the game being played - 30-70?

3.5%? Must be nice. 16.29% here. Finally have a state wide mask law.

Surprised Larimer County let it get that far. Usually a lot more responsible and/or smart than that.

Masks have been about 100 percent in buildings, but out and about it doesn't look any different than any other summer. The previously mentioned baseball league, I've seen maybe two masks at games. Parents seem to be social distanced OK, but other than a use your own equipment rule, most other precautions haven't really been observed. Probably pretty much like every other place that is allowing activities. So we'll see how long the fun lasts. That 3.5 percent rate is obviously pretty good, so there is that. I also have word that the test result backlog is back and it's more than a week in some cases. That doesn't bode well for anything either.

That seems to be widespread lately.
