St. Monica ... 1987 ... CIF 5A hoops semifinals at Fullerton State ... St. Monica vs. Mater Dei ... Brian Williams misses free throws in the closing seconds as Mater Dei goes nuts after advancing to the title game (against my school) and Brian Williams falls to the court and sobs. Emotional moment. Would love to see a #30for30 on Brian/Bison through the lens of mental health ...

A couple of years later, I tried to interview him at an NCAA regional. I introduced myself as being from his hometown paper. He said, "Fuck off, I'm from Fresno" and he walked away.

You need to go back and fix your post.

It's Cal State Fullerton. We're not Long Beach.

"I'm from Fresno" would be a good TV show.
Nah that was just for you lol.

And you're right ... you'll never be Long Beach.

Songbird has been out East too long. Forgotten his roots. Xanadu would never have made a mistake like that.

If your state association is screwed up, you can even get long roadies in places like Arkansas. The two big Fort Smith high schools were put into a conference with the schools in central Arkansas. So aside from their crosstown rivals, their closest conference opponent was in Conway - 133 miles away. Hell of a thing for Tuesday night conference games.

Just wait until Jonesboro goes to 7A, which is coming.

Damn. It's all relative, I suppose. Jonesboro, with Arkansas State having presumably grown, must have clearly distanced itself from places like Tyrell, Tyronza and Twist, which, if I remember correctly, were the three town names on the same exit sign off a highway in that part of the state.
None can match the best town name in Arkansas: Three Brothers.

And Gaylord Perry still has a stash of Vaseline hidden under his cap somewhere for just this occasion.

Beaver Dam High School in Littlefield, Ariz., competes in Nevada because you can't actually get to any place else in Arizona from the Mohave Strip without leaving the state.
