Nah. A 1 1/2 day story is all this is worth.

Part of me hopes this was all a work to promote the gritty, adult reboot of "Fresh Prince" that everybody thought was an SNL skit when the promos started airing.

No, that's a really dumb take. I mean, the notion that the Academy can't speak out against slapping a presenter onstage because the Academy has recognized Polanski's work -- and as creepy as he is, he's a brilliant director -- is just dumb.

This whole thing is producing some of the most ridiculous takes. On Twitter someone was arguing that this took off because white people were furious because Chris Rock is "one of like seven Black people that white people like." Yeah, because white people can't handle the super-Black badass that is the Fresh Prince.

I’m a little disappointed that the slap didn’t rattle a distant memory from Rock’s comedic brain so he might exclaim, “Wow! You don’t like me! You really don’t like me!”

Perhaps then, Sally Fields might have stormed the stage and the whole show might have devolved into something like the final fight scene in Blazing Saddles.

I'd love to see a revival of the latter. Imagine Donald Trump and Greta Thunberg in their Art Clokey-like glory!

That dress is everything! Imagine the visual of her sauntering up to Rock and giving him a piece of her mind. We'd be having a very different conversation. She'd forever be the queen of a new movement.

Anyway, over on the other thread about this same subject -- can we marry them? -- a post from Kareem is far more eloquent. In part, he writes:
"From everything I'd seen of Pinkett Smith over the years, she's a very capable, tough, smart woman who can single-handedly take on a lame joke at the Academy Awards show. This patronizing, paternal attitude infantilizes women and reduces them to helpless damsels needing a Big Strong Man to defend their honor least they swoon from the vapors. If he was really doing it for his wife, and not his own need to prove himself, he might have thought about the negative attention this brought on them, much harsher than the benign joke. That would have been truly defending and respecting her."

    Damn skippy, Mr. Abdul-Jabbar.

I'm on Team Jada if for no other reason than I love this movie.

The reason I have no idea which way to lean on this is Will Smith:

It's real - you gave the gayest slap of a guy in history.
It's kayfabe - you go from being All-American to a Karen.

There's no damn way I would become a comedian in the current climate. FFS.
