    Wicked --

Are you in an apartment complex or crowded neighborhood, by chance? If so, try using a different channel. I was losing my signal all the time, but then noticed that the other 8 signals my adapter picked up were all on the standards -- 1, 6 and 11. So I changed mine to 9.

    No problems since.

One other thing I was going to suggest: If you are getting other signals, see if you can log on using one of them. If so, you know the problem's in your router settings, not in your computer.

That's a good one, I forgot about that.

These are all good suggestions, but I've tried most of them.

-- Tried rebooting the modem and the router, just the router, just the modem, etc.; same results.
-- Getting no other signals here in my neighborhood.
    -- Tried repairing the connection.

There must be a problem with the Internet connection that I don't know of. I was told before by the ISP there was a clean bill of health, but who knows.

Is the internet connection working on hardwire (that is, when you plug it in from the modem to the computer itself)? Of course, if you don't want to lug your desktop up three flights of stairs to check this, I understand.

Magically solved itself this morning. Funny how it works.

Then why the hell did you bother us with it?

Ok, I'll stop being a smartass and make my real point I wanted.
It'll probably happen again, try to figure out what is different now if you can so you can fix it quicker if it does reoccur.
