With gay marriage decided, what will be the next big left-led social change?

"We're not even asking for acceptance, we're just asking for tolerance. Let us live our lives together without fear," said Nathan Collier.

LOL. A caller from Montana mentioned this on the Rush Limbaugh show yesterday.

    Should be fun to follow.

You can talk about the legal issues, and the 14th Amendment, but this was the main argument for gay marriage, wasn't it?

People can say they are different issues, but this argument doesn't change.

But the left pranced around saying "no, this is two consenting adults." Uh, no, they based it on civil rights. This seems to be unintended consequences. And while most kids can't get married without parental approval until they are 18, too many things are at work already to usurp parental rights, including a item near and dear to the gay community regarding conversion therapy. With Hillary and her "Takes a Village" philosophy, I can sure as hell see a 13-year-old in New Hampshire saying FU to his-her parents and heading to court. May not be 13, but 16, but then the card, as we've seen it this past week, gets pushed a little more every day on what is fair and just and gradually, the bar will get lowered, and lowered.....

Without fear? Is there a lot of polygamist bashing that goes unreported?

Well, the left's common argument is that polygamy is pedophilia. Nope, it's consenting adults here.

I think -- and as we've seen even here with some of the reactions, it applies to swingers as well -- that if folks came out as polygamists, they would face discrimination.

Hard to argue that they wouldn't.

You quoted my question about why I am supposed to give a shit about polygamists or gays, with *that* answer?

I just wanted to confirm that whether gays marry, or polygamists marry, it doesn't change my life one iota.

The "How does it change your life ..." argument is bullshit. So how does it change your life if they're not allowed to marry?

    Oh, exactly. I wasn't disagreeing/arguing with you. I think you're right.

And, because it really was the main argument in the fight for gay marriage, it's hard for foks to pretend now like it wasn't, and that the whole gay marriage case was based on strictly legal/constitutional grounds.

And, while the Onion got it wrong, since Roberts was in the minority, they pretty much nailed the general view in America:

Ten minutes into oral arguments over whether or not homosexuals should be allowed to marry one another, a visibly confounded Supreme Court stopped legal proceedings Tuesday and ruled that gay marriage was “perfectly fine” and that the court could “care less who marries whom.”

“Yeah, of course gay men and women can get married. Who gives a shit?” said Chief Justice John Roberts, who interrupted attorney Charles Cooper’s opening statement defending Proposition 8, which rescinded same-sex couples’ right to marry in California. “Why are we even seriously discussing this?”

“Does anyone else up here care about this?” Roberts added as his eight colleagues began shaking their heads and saying, “No,” “Nah,” and “I also don’t care about this.” “Great. Same-sex marriage is legal in the United States of America. Do we have anything of actual import on the docket, or are we done for the day?”

Before Roberts officially ended proceedings, sources confirmed that all nine justices were reportedly dumbfounded, asking why the case was even coming before them and wondering aloud if some sort of mistake had been made. Calling marriage equality a “no-brainer,” members of the High Court appeared not just confused but irritated when Proposition 8 defenders argued that gay marriage was not a national issue but a state matter.

I'm going to go ahead and say as long as it's consenting adults and you aren't blood related or faking it in an attempt to avoid testifying in a RICO prosecution, I truly don't care how many people you marry.

It doesn't change my life either way. It does change gays' life though. They have a chance to make a commitment to someone and enjoy happiness for a lifetime (or, it will end 50% of the time in misery, like for heteros).

Its a big deal for gays, and it doesn't harm anybody but the feelings of bigots and bible thumpers. That's a win-win in my book. If you want to throw polygamists in as well, I fail to see the downside.
