Oh, come now. That's being willfully naive.

You go to the next closest "authority figure" -- security guard, PGA official, media liaison -- and get it remedied.

And incidentally, if you that and THEN don't get satisfaction, if there is some proof of INSTITUTIONAL COMPLIANCE in what just happened, then I promise you that many of us will be right there with you.

I would have gone and got a cheese and pimento sandwich and a Coke.

Ms. Sullivan is clearly right to be pissed. Female writers are right to feel painful echoes of the past, when exclusion was the rule rather than the exception. But where is this all supposed to lead? Going on and on about the lowest of the low-hanging fruit, the Masters, doesn't really seem right, as Ms. Sullivan was not barred from doing her job at Augusta before, and there were no other reports of exclusion of females. As a general cautionary tale to remain vigilant everywhere, the outrage probably works.

Cheese and pimento sandwiches are a good thing.

Her story made it seem clear that she would be allowed to proceed to "the next doorway" but was assured by Guard No. 1 that the next guard would bar her.

Seeing as she had never been barred from anywhere at that tournament before . . . I say it's highly likely the second guard knew the rules and would have allowed her in.

Is that really a stretch on my part?

How do you "proceed on" past the guard already barring your way?

You go in a direction AWAY from that guard and find the next closest authority figure.

    Here's you.

Here's the security guard. Over here's a media liaison.

    Here's the locker room.

You go to the media liaison. You can go 90 paces to your left and then turn in the direction of the media liaison ... or you can proceed toward the media liaison at an 87-degree angle.

    Hope the schematic helped.

Or you can get Petey to create a diversion and sneak the entire gang through the gate.

And you WILL notice half of them are female.

As stated in her column, she looked for a Masters' rep. She didn't find one.

And I was addressing BTE. Thanks.

Jr. Tara's story said she looked for one and couldn't find a Masters official. She's on to plan B, and she's on deadline. I've been in her shoes and you don't have time to scream. This isn't an episode of COPs. It's an episode of get your damn column written.

Thanking one when one isn't thankful is the ultimate in passive/aggressiveness.

Fair enough. Just one other question, then. If it's an episode of get your damn column written, where does Tweeting about your predicament come in?

    Boo-yah. :D
