One of the most funniest movies was on last night on CBC: Happy Gilmore. I love the scuffle between Bob Barker and Happy. Also when Happy gets the golf ball out of the aligator oh and when Chubbs dies (the circumstances around it).

Did any other Canadian sj members see it?

For Bad: If you want to briefly refer to wrestling as a sport, how about Nach Libre? Funny flick because of Jack Black,. But as a sports flick???????????????????????????

For cheesiest: You have to be an old fart like me to remember Willaim Bendix in 1948's The Babe Ruth Story.

Damn. I didn't see the "sports" in the title when I posted The Quick and the Dead. Rookie move.

I saw it was on. I've never understood the attraction to either that movie or Adam Sandler. I think Satan got about six souls for Sandler's career

So many great, I mean cheesy, ones already mentioned ...
"Blue Chips" might be the worst movie ever (other than "The Firm" and "Spiderman 3.") I think it's definitely the worst sports movie. Stilted deliveries from Shaq and Penny Hardway. Unrealistic details. Al Bundy's newspaper dispatches a photog to the one guy's farm to get a picture of a new tractor?
"Side Out" is definitely up there as is "The Babe Ruth Story" and "The Fan" and "Remember the Titans." I tried watching that movie again when it was on TBS. There are just a couple scenes I can't get past, and a couple of lines that are unintentionally hilarious.
For instance, the one from Gary Bertier's character, " ... They have Wheelchair Olympics."
I think there's a difference between cheesy and cheesy as a synonym for bad. I'll watch "The Replacements" even though it stinks. I'll watch "The Cutting Edge," "Days of Thunder" and maybe even "Necessary Roughness."
I'll never watch "Blue Chips" or "Side Out" again unless I'm strapped in with my eyes pried open ala "Clockwork Orange."

  7. I think Over The Top deserves consideration.

Though Denzel was PUR-fect in the movie, Remember the Titans lost me when the used facemasks that were not in use during the time period. Kind of like Babe Ruth using a batting helmet.

"The Natural" is the most overrated sports movie of all-time. It always comes up in discussions on the best sports movies, but I've never understood it. He hit a ball into the fucking lights. With blood pouring out of his damn stomach.

Maybe it's because I always heard about how good The Natural was, but when I first saw it, I wanted to blow something up. It was horrible.

And I can't believe "Ali" hasn't been mentioned. A movie about Cassius Clay is a) insanely boring and b) ends after the Rumble in the Jungle? Disastrous.

Not even close. It could have been better, but I enjoyed the hell out of Ali.
