Yada yada yada, I got out of prison three weeks ago for good behavior. But I'm never allowed back at the petting zoo again.

And if you're lucky, you'll cover Bemidji State.

I promise you, I had a stringer do this once. He also wrote his story in all caps.

I took the stats and rewrote the thing from scratch. And found a new stringer.

The, um, beaver there isn't very good. Unless you're a female, and then your chances of chowing on some beaver at the Beaver Dome multiplies by 10.

"Over the years, I have seen some area teams experience heartbreaking last-second losses. I saw a local football team seemingly drive for a winning score, only to have the opponent return the ensuing kickoff for a winning touchdown, and I have seen a boys basketball team lead the entire game in a state playoff, only to lose on a buzzer-beating putback."

    Well, good for you.

I still think this was a fun lede I wrote a couple of months ago. I can see how people would be upset, but honestly, when the two teams combine to go 36-135 from the field, I don't know how you can be a cookie cutter.

"Like some sort of elaborate game of ‘hot potato’, the Whonow and Whatchamacallit girls basketball teams spent 32 minutes Wednesday night seeing which squad could perfect the art of giving away a victory.

In the end, however, the Squirrels found a way to win at losing. Namely, they were able to cough up the ball more than the Acorns –14 times in the second half to be precise—and completely forgot how to rebound the ball on key possessions to watch a once comfortable lead turn into another head-scratching defeat."

I know it was a tad long for a lede + followup paragraph, but man, did that piss some people off.

    ^That's harsh.

Well, my intention wasn't to be harsh or anything. I just wanted to write about what happened, and believe me, i was being nice. This game was easily the worse girl basketball game i've seen this year, and the article eventually balanced out with positivity that the "Whatchamacallits" were able to "rally" for the win.
