Worst Logos in Sports

They actually do still use that as an alternate logo on some stuff. Coolest thing was following the '64 season, the elf had a crown on its head to indicate the team was the reigning champs of the league.

(Insert potshot about this being Cleveland's last championship in anything here)

I have a collection of hats from football teams/leagues no longer with us. Berlin Thunder, The USFL had some good ones, but nothing beats this:

I always liked this one from the USFL.

Yeah. I know Steelers fans such as myself are just overwhelmed with jealousy. :)

But aren't they using this now:

Don't see anything remarkable about the top one, other than it's one that many people grew up with (and thus are attached to)

Yes they are using that one now. And by changing the colors they went from a look that was distinct (you saw those helmets from a distance and you knew what team you were watching) to a color scheme that Notre Dame, Navy, Georgia Tech and probably a half-dozen other teams use. Watching a Pitt-Notre Dame game now looks like a scrimmage.

Yeah, but if we're lucky, maybe we'll get another post-game F-bomb on national television. :)

I use that argument in support of Tennessee's orange --- you know from a distance what team you're watching --- and the fact that if you pick an orange off a tree, guess whose team colors it most closely resembles?

But that doesn't stop about 98% of people outside of Tennessee from hating it anyway.

Black and/or gold has sadly been the default change for many teams in many sports. And you're right. When too many teams use it, there is nothing distinctive about it. And teams that were once blue or green tend to change to such a dark shade that it may as well be black.

When they used that logo, they used to be serenaded with chants of "We want fishsticks" every time they went to MSG. Didn't take long for them to go back to the one they used when they used to win games.
