No one's brought up "Careless Whisper" by Wham yet?

    I'm never gonna dance again
Guilty feet have got no rhythm

    Everybody's doin' the
    Disco, disco duck
    Disco, disco duck
    Try your luck
    Wave to me
    Don't be a cluck
    Disco
    Disco
    Disco
    Disco
    Disco
    Disco, disco duck

    That's another classic.
What the heck was he doing with his feet?
I don't think anybody wants an answer to that.

    Another nominee:

"We were tryin' different things/we were smokin' funny things" - Kid Rock, apparently unable to find a word that rhymed with "things."

As for Train (my least favorite band ever), that's not even the worst lyric IN THAT SONG.

"Since the return from her stay on the moon / she listens like spring and she talks like June, hey, hey."

Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken
Your best friend always sticking up for you even when I know you're wrong
Can you imagine no first dance, freeze dried romance five-hour phone conversation
The best soy latte that you ever had . . . and me

I hate, hate, hate when rhyming lines end with the same word. It's not a "rocks and things" line, but it's still pretty lazy.

I can't believe I only saw one mention of Steve Miller and it wasn't his worst effort either. I submit:
    Abra-abracadabra
I wanna reach out and grab ya.
    Abra-abracadabra
    Abracadabra
(Must have taken all night to get that nailed down.)

Fergie deserves a category unto herself, and Fergalicious might be the worst. I mean, you can't even spell "tasty" right?

    T to the A
to the S-T-E-Y girl you tasty
    T to the A
to the S-T-E-Y girl you tasty

And Tom Petty, as much as I like a lot of his stuff from Wildflowers and before then, is outstanding in "Honey Bee":

She give me her monkey hand/And a rambler sedan
I'm the king of Milwaukee (pause)
Her juju beads are so nice/She kissed my third cousin twice
    I'm the king of Pomona
And I've got something to say

Could also throw Van Halen's "Right Now" in there: "Only time will tell if we stand the test of time"
And Vanilla Ice, who in his song claimed to be a lyrical genius and light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle: "All right stop,
    Collaborate and listen
Ice is back with my brand new invention
Something grabs a hold of me tightly
Flowin' like a harpoon daily and nightly" (Flowin' like a harpoon? ... sadly, I still have all the lyrics memorized and have been known to start singing it)

And with that -- sorry about it turning into a greatest hits compilation (act now and get a free Ginsu knife!) -- I leave you with a gloriously catchy tune:

Ring ring ring ring ring ring ring bananaphone
Ring ring ring ring ring ring ring bananaphone

I've got this feeling, so appealing
For us to get together and sing, sing !

Ring ring ring ring ring ring ring bananaphone
Ding dong ding dong ding dong ding donanaphone

    It grows in bunches
    I've got my hunches
It's the best, beats the rest
    Cellular, Modular, Interactive odular

Ring ring ring ring ring ring ring bananaphone
Ping pong ping pong ping pong ping pananaphone ...

Paul McCartney, "Live and Let Die":

"In this ever changing world in which we live in"

I mentioned "Careless Whisper" earlier and forgot a second clunker in there:

"As the music dies, something in your eyes
Calls to mind the silver screen and all its sad goodbyes"

    Led Zeppelin, "Immigrant Song":

"So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins,
For peace and trust can win the day
    Despite of all your losing."

And though I've always liked the song, this line from "Don't Stand So Close to Me" by the Police sounds like a Sting parody:

"He starts to shake and cough
Just like the old man in that book by Nabokov"

The grammar in "Good Things" by the Bodeans always drove me nuts:

"No, no, no, don't pass me over
No, no, no, don't pass me by
See I can see good things for you and I"

That's the one I always cite as my winner for worst ever. But it's from Why Can't This Be Love, not Right Now.

Along the same vein, how about this classic from Steve Nicks:

    "Just like the white-winged dove
Sings a song sounds like she's singing"

Hmm. Maybe the bird sounds like she's singing because you JUST EFFING SAID IT'S SINGING!

Attaboy. You're right, the inspiration for this thread was only the tip of the Train-sucks iceberg. Burn the whole damn thing to the ground. Indeed, Train is the devil.

What was the song where Madonna tried to rap. She had a line something like "I drink a soy latte, I make it a double shottay"
    Blech.

a local teen was killed by a train yesterday.

as for those lyrics, i kind of dig 'em.

didn't the beatles do that whole "i am the walrus, kookookachoo!" ??

or what about "don't switch the blade on a guy in shades, oh no" ...
