Just wondering if you have awaken from the land of dancing sour patch kids and talking gummy bears yet?

Bruins sell out? Celtics still draw?
Maybe when you look at the screen on TV and see all the gold in the stands during Bruins games you don't realize those are seat backs. And when watching Celtics games you must not notice that the camera stays pretty close to never venturing above the lower bowl to help it look like the place is packed.

Nice try attempting to sell people out of the Bruins and Celtics market that they are doing well ticketwise. Doesn't work for those of us who work the market though. You did give me a nice laugh though, I appreciate that.

I definitely do not disagree that Boston fans are one of the most passionate and knowledgeable fan bases in all of pro sports. There's no questioning any of that. My only thing is the poor woe-is-me attitude that permiated Red Sox Nation and how that everyone gave them a big ol' knob-slob when they won. The worst of the lot, though, are the fans that aren't even from New England. Those people should get the Kathy Bates/Misery treatment.

The Red Sox fans still wail. It's in their fucking DNA. The douchebags actually love being miserable, and that hasn't changed in three years. Too entrenched.

Yes, Red Sox fans whine too much these days. And no one goes to Celtics games anymore. But when discussing "the worst professional sports town in America," Boston doesn't even come close. Perhaps they're obnoxious, but they care, and they're more knowledgable than most. Compare that to so many places where going to a baseball game is just an excuse to get drunk outdoors and people start leaving in the 6th inning.

Simple equation: Booing injured players = no class.

Go to an Eagle/Cowboy Monday-night game in Philly and tell me about classy Philly fans.

    You can't.

Every other word is the "F" bomb.

    Louts.

    Drunken louts, at that.

These arguments are always so ridiculous.

What exactly are you praising about the "best" sports towns?

And what are you ripping about the "worst"?

The Red Sox fan who plops his butt into his Fenway seat seven days a week, knows the first name of the home-plate umpire but likely doesn't know who the Vice President is or where Iraq is on a map . . . is something to be proud of?

Likewise, the Marlins fan who takes in a ballgame on Friday, coaches a little league team on Saturday, goes boating on Sunday, goes to the theater on Monday and takes in a movie on Tuesday is someone who should be ashamed because he is a "bad" fan?

A Royals fan who never misses a game despite ownership's indifference to ever trying to put together a winning team is someone we should admire? The same fan who would never give repeat business to a restaurant that had second-rate food and second-rate service.

P.T. Barnum had a name for people like that.

Pittsburgh fans cheered too when some asshole was carried off on a stretcher at Three Rivers in the 80's. Totally classless and uncalled for, yet they always get a free pass because they sell out every Steelers game and 20,000 displaced Yinzers show up for road games in every city.

As for the guy that was booed, pretty sure his name was Bradshaw or something.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good story, Red--the Celtics averaged 16,843 this season. Not bad for a building that seats 18,624 for hoops. Check the figures here...

I won't argue with you regarding the Bruins--a pathetic franchise--but the idea that Boston IS THE WORST PROFESSIONAL SPORTS TOWN IN AMERICA (the original theme of the thread...) is laughable.

... which is why I created a similar poll that is more focused. Fans in Boston, NY or Philly are any combination of insufferable, arrogant or borderline sociopathic, but they know their shit and support their teams, no matter how dreadful they may be. Can't say that about Atlanta, Miami or Los Angeles.
