Worst Team to Win a Championship

Based on the final record, its a fair argument, the two main counters would be

    1. Won the BIG EAST Championship in a year when the conference was arguably the toughest conference in NCAA history. As part of that championship run, they beat four-straight Top 25 teams and three-straight Top 12 teams.

    2. If you are going to use general elite talent as a judge (which some have for other teams), you had two future lottery picks in Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lamb.

The Field in 2010 was fucking awful, look at that Final Four, you could make a case it was the worst EVER,

In fact, if I am not mistaken that Final Four had ONE future lottery pick in it between the four teams and it was Gordon Hayward.

Winning 35 games in a year when there is a collection of bad teams and a bad year all around doesn't mean much to me.

That team sucked ass and historically is one of the worst champions, as is that piece of crap Maryland team.

Hard to argue about the last two Giants Super Bowls or the MLB version's two World Series, all four teams got hot at the right time. Coughlin was probably out if the Giants were one and out in the playoffs or worse during the first run. I don't know if any Giants baseball player on either version could be projected to the Hall of Fame at this point.

Seriously? Do you even watch baseball? Buster Posey, ROY, MVP, 2-time WS champ in 1st 3 years.

Careful -- after 2010 you would have posted the same "Seriously?" about Lincecum.

Posey is a pretty good bet to end up there but it's definitely too early to project him to the Hall, especially for a catcher.

Posey projects well, comparables to Piazza, Berra, Hartnett and Fisk. Will probably need to play at least 10 more years at the current level to be a lock.

I think Posey has less of a case right now than Lincecum had after 2010. He has had exactly one season with over 406 at-bats. I'm not sure I'd even say it's a pretty good bet right now. Not just a catcher, but one who has already had a major injury.

Way too early to put him in the discussion. Maybe at least wait to see if he can reach 500 at-bats in a season more than once?

It was certainly one of the best conferences. But even with unbalanced scheduling, I have a hard time calling it the toughest when those teams got to fatten up on 15-17 Rutgers, 15-17 Providence, 13-18 Seton Hall, 10-23 USF and 7-24 DePaul. The bottom of that league was pillow-soft.

The 2010 Giants were a terrible champion.
"Battled" a bad Padres team for the pennant until the final day.
    Barely staved off those losers.

From listening to talk radio and reading this board, I thought the past two Heat teams were the worst of all time?

The query said "projected"; I'm not saying Posey's in the HOF now, far from it, but man what a start.

As for the Lincecum comparison, as much electricity as Lincecum brought to a post-Bonds moribund franchise and to my sports life, Timmy has not shown the adjustment to grind, its all electricity or getting shelled; Posey is a different baseball character; all baseball all the time; the penultimate baseball player, a guy who grinds like a .225 inf but with the talent of an all-timer.
