Would calling Obama illiterate have been better?

No doubt about that. I just see no reason to rewrite the language every 20 years to respond to new (or old and resurfaced) social waves.

To echo a previous point, I do believe, then, that intent is crucial. I don't see the point in crucifying someone for using certain phrases if their intent is pure.

But that must be balanced with a social awareness so one understands how he may be perceived. You don't want to rewrite the language every 20 years, but you should be sensitive enough to understand how certain things might play with others...

Which is why he asked God to have Aaron be his "spokesman." See Exodus 4:10-16.

    Which reminds me:

So I'm watching NYPD Blue on TNT last night, and it's the one where the abortion clinic gets firebombed.
Sipowicz and Zach Morris bring in some muckity-muck with a pro-life organization for questioning, but get nowhere.

On the way out, the dude gives a long biblical quote, ending with an obscure citation like "Galatians, 14:36.

Sipowicz stares at him and says, "Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out." Glance at his watch. "Sipowicz, 10:42."

    I almost pissed myself.

Hey, bydesign77! Beware of anything Colin Cowherd might say. I have talked to this guy and he truly does not believe that Craig Biggio deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. The impediment may not be in his speech, it may be about 5-6 inches higher.

I think you missed the point of my post.

Which is to say even he found this subject. Which means that even the most ordinary people can grasp it.
