Actually, I think Wright State just took Butler's spot.

No, I think Butler was pretty safe in knowing that they were going to be playing next Thursday or Friday at a neutral court. They were in regardless.

I actually called it before the game to a friend with Butler ties - the Horizon League's not stupid. They know more teams in the tournament = more cash, so why would they even allow Butler to be the one-and-done bid? Thing is, he agreed with me, partially because it happens every time the Horizon League has a similar situation to this one. Honestly, I can't think of any other league that this happens to.

As I said on another thread, Wright State took one of the CAA's spots. And perhaps its only spot.

Butler has been riding those early-season wins all year. It has lost to Wright State (twice), Illinois-Chicago, Loyola Chicago and Indiana State. It has beaten one RPI top 100 team this calendar year.

Butler is probably in, but it shouldn't feel comfortable.

I know how much some dislike Joe Lunardi, but on his updated projection, he's got Butler as a No. 6 seed against Missouri State. Butler's safe, I don't believe there's any question about that.

Kansas State, Florida State West Virginia and others like them? Well, if there were any doubts that they needed a deep run in conference tournaments before ...

Old Dominion actually played some teams: Clemson, Georgetown, Virginia Tech and Winthrop. If ODU gets bounced and freakin Nevada gets a 4 seed, the committee should get fired.

True, but they're 1-3 against those teams, and Clemson and Winthrop were at home. Plus they lost to James Madison, which is never a good loss.

I'd like to see them in, but if Wright State didn't KO them, the next upset will.

ODU beat Georgetown. It also beat Drexel, VCU and Hofstra as it finished the regular season on an 11-game winning streak in a conference that ranked 13th in RPI. It also tested itself against big-conference teams.

    That's good enough for me.

Can we please stop mentioning Florida State...sub .500 in conference, ninth place in conference, 4-11 against top 50 teams, 14-0 against 100 or higher RPI.
Unless they make a run to the ACC final, the Noles have no shot.

Run? Hell they'd have to WIN the ACC Tournament. If they played in any other league in America we wouldn't even be talking about them. But the ACC is God's gift to basketball.

I also can't say for sure that Butler should definitely be in. Does anyone honestly think that team, right now, is one of the 30-something best at-large candidates?

Maybe I'm crazy — hell, I probably am — but even though Butler beat Tennessee (EARLY in the season), I'm not sure the Bulldogs should get in over a fifth SEC team.
