    How about the AP using Chris "Beanie" Wells in a first reference. I don't see the point. Once you get to college and become an adult, you can be named whatever the hell you want to be named. High school though? Use what yer momma gave ya.
    My belief is that nicknames in high school are dumb. Only the name you go by normally, not nicknames. Just because a girl's nickname is Monster means everyone will get it.
    Although that beats the nickname of a girl I covered in volleyball (Whizzer).

    I've seen a lot of outlets refer to Adam "Pac-Man" Jones as well as Pac Man Jones.

    The only time I've ever heard of Whitey Herzog being called by his given name was when Chris Berman did so as a protest.
