    No Chuck, you said:

    And then said:

So where has it bumped soccer to the No.2 sport?

I didn't mean the whole damn country. I meant, like I said, in certain areas.

So are we to take "an area" to mean a suburb of a city or an entire city? Because that doesn't seem like much to me, especially since Europeans cities have much smaller populations that North American counterparts.

Chuck, you ever think all those NBA jerseys in France were just fashion accessories? After all, couldn't we count the number of 59Fifty MLB hats vs. the number of people in NBA caps or jerseys and think MLB > NBA?

Chuck, you're twisting things around here. Nobody's saying basketball is unwatchable. Just the NBA. There's a reason those millions of people who watched Monday night's NCAA final didn't come back and watch an NBA game the next night. Just because you don't like the SPORT of baseball, please don't equate the whole sport with the American major basketball LEAGUE. There is a difference.

Yeah, it dosn't seem like it now, but it will in the future when it expands. And France isn't the only place I've been to. I'm not gonna' sit here and tell you all the places I went to during my trips the past couple years, but I can honestly say that it's improving and it'll be monster over there in the future. Now, that dosn't neccesarily translate into it being popular over here because of Stern. But, I think the Star power will. Hell LeBron and DWade(Lebron at 3 and Wade at 5) are already in the top 5 for most marketable athletes.

Mert, don't get me wrong. I follow the sport. I don't watch it as much unless I'm studying or something but I follow it.
Secondly, that's a good point. But I don't think you can compare an NBA regular season game to a NCAA final. Again, I'm saying that it's not great right now. But in time, it will be.

Yes, basketball's popularity is improving overseas. Just like soccer's is improving here.

In fact, every sport's popularity is improving thanks to technology. The world is much smaller now than it was 10 or even five years ago. Basketball fans in Europe and Asia can watch games via the Internet. Cricket fans in the USA can do the same.

But, again, circumstantial evidence like NBA jerseys you spotted in France mean nothing.

Following that logic, NASCAR's getting awful popular in places the France family never would have expected

Actually, I think it does mean something. Getting a jersey is not the same as getting a MLB hat. When people get an MLB hat, it's either because it's their favorite team, were they're from, or just liking it's look. When people by a jersey, it's because of the player. Plus, I'm pretty sure that NBA jerseys are more popular than MLB hats over there.
