Just caught a promo for ESPN's MLS coverage. The hook?

"You're a fan already, you just don't know it."

I'm not sure about this, seems a little, "Aw, come one, give it a try." to me.

I sort of agree. But the production didn't seem bad. They just need to whore the product out more, just not as bad as they were with Junction Boys.

Would a "Tilt" or "Playmakers" level of whoreishness work?

  4. I haven't read this entire thread, but would like to add that I just moved back to the US after living in the UK for the past 15 months. I was not a soccer fan before I left but living there changed my whole outlook. If a sports fan from another country moved here and had an open mind, they would probably become NFL fans before too long because it's impossible not to get caught up in the excitement people have for it. Now that I'm home, I'm reading BBC sports, soccernet.com, etc everyday because i miss it. I don't have a TV yet (I litterally just came back) but when I do, you can bet I will be getting foxsports soccer. It won't ever be big here because we have too many options and it's not marketed well enough (gimmicky ads won't do it, but maybe running games, or specials about the rivalries and history might help).

How about an MLS version of Footballers' Wives?

I could go for that. Throw in Donovan's wife as well as the wives of several other players, which surprises me quite a bit. That could work.

Actually . . . .no they don't. Becks overwhelms them with the female vote. People who aren't sports fans know exactly who dude is. Until Bend it like Dwyane comes out, it remains that way.

    OVERWHELMS them, Chuck.

Just to back up Piotr's point. My mother knows who Becks is. Has no clue who Dwyane or LeBron are. One of my sisters is the same.

Famous English expatriate John Lennon, in the Monday Night Football booth, circa 1970-something:

"(the NFL games) make rock concerts look like tea parties."
