Somebody forgot to mention Williston, N.D., in the America's armpit contest. ... Especially now that it's the most expensive city to live in in the state.

It's not an armpit it's a desert. There is nothing here outside of oil rigs. The city is overun with people too. So many that every business has ridiculous waits. Two weeks minimum to get car in the shop, restaurants take forever and generally have horrendous service, 30+ minute waits in line at Wal-Mart because its the only game in town ... etc. A lot of it has to do with the fact that there is a sudden need for a lot more workers at these places due to the oil people but there is no one to work.

I think dm19 knows what he's talking about. But there are worse armpits than Williston or Laramie. Torrington has to be in the mix.

Not sure what dm19's background is but I currently work in Williston. Things have changed dramatically in the last 6 months to a year. We get thousands more oil workers every year. The 2010 Census was wayyy off and the city is trying to get it the accurate numbers put out. Problem is thousands live in the hotels which don't get counted by Census.

I worked at a ranch near Laramie August-Sept. last year. Loved the city and its college-town feel. I'm from a college town, albeit a larger one, and I enjoyed going in on game days.

Oh, and remember Wyoming is a wealthy state. Low sales tax and no state income tax. That stretches the budget a bit.

Honestly, I wish I was interested in this opening. I'd love a reason to move to Wyoming.

I know. I just moved from western North Dakota. I've been through most of Wyoming as well. There are worse places to live than Cheyenne or Williston.

To call Laramie, or Williston, or any number of small cities in flyover country the armpit of the the country is to ignore the hundreds of decaying rustbelt cities of 25K or more with 25 percent unemployment, boarded-up downtowns and absolutely no future.

This ad is for a job in a growing, economically-healthy, scenic part of the country with low state taxes and a very real possibility of covering Division I sports of some sort on a regular basis, as well as the greatest rodeo in the country, and a summer wood-bat baseball team, while working for a boss who has earned generally excellent reviews while living in a state capital about 90 minutes from Denver.

Cheyenne isn't everyone's dream destination but it's not a bad gig for very many people in the sportswriting business.

I know winning The Most Boring Pissing Match Of All Time is, like, WAY important and all, but maybe not on this thread, eh?

    What he said.

More about the job ... less B.S., por favor.

    Nice downtown? Laramie?

If that is your definition of a nice downtown, you must live in the Unabomber's cabin.

The topic at hand, of course, is the job itself, not any individual's opinion of Laramie.

As Mguy and others pointed out, it's a decent opportunity to work under an excellent boss in a state that has many opportunities and no or low taxes.

You're not interested, don't apply. If you want to add to the discussion, keep in mind it's a job board and focus on that. You want to start an Armpit of America thread, have at it.

Is the U of Wyoming good at any sport in particular? I would assume rodeo, but how about football, hoops, etc.?
