Yeah. But Maddux is a decent coach.

  2. Just popped on this thread - and when I saw the nominees I figured no need for me to state my case for the Stooges. But I see it took 8 pages for someone to mention them. It is the rock and roll hall of fame, right? No one on that list rocked harder than the Stooges, precursors to much of punk. And while we're at it, short-lived, but the New York Dolls have to be in. Two albums of blistering fun rock and roll with more passion and life than anything Yes or Rush ever did.

He left a little to be desired in his later years with the Brewers.

The world is littered with bands that produced a couple of albums of "blistering fun rock and roll." I agree that the New York Dolls have a place in history, but that argument doesn't exactly describe a seminal band.

"Passion" is relative. Sometimes passion in music is simple loudness. Sometimes it's being extra meticulous, getting every note right. One man's whiskey is another man's tea.

    Or some such.

Malcolm McLaren managed the New York Dolls for their final tour, and ripped them off completely in how created and hyped the Sex Pistols, who are in. Without the Stooges, the MC5 and the New York Dolls, the whole of punk and (I hate this term) alternative music never happens. These bands are like the Sandy Koufax of potential RnR Famers -- a few short seasons so spectacular, they overcome any arguments about a lack of longevity.

A much better argument in favor of the New York Dolls. And one I agree with.

  8. Agree with Bob Cook - part of the magic is doing what they did when no one else was doing anything like it.

Again, it doesn't matter if you like Rush or not, the band should be in the HOF.
If the decisions were made without bias (as much as possible), Rush and Genesis and Yes would all be in or get in.
