Nicely done. Although I think the 666 gives an unfair advantage to heavy metal bands.....

All rock music is the devil's music except for Pat Boone, but not his harlot daughter.

My God you're being obtuse about this.

It's not validating me in any way. I don't think Rush belongs. The voters don't, either. If they did, Rush would be in. They are not. It doesn't strike me as that complex.

Not sure where I'm throwing in with the mysterious band of cronies and idiots. If they were unanimous in voting in favor of Rush I would disagree with them.

According to AP, Genesis will not be performing. Bummer - I'd love to see Peter Gabriel in the flower costume one more time.

Hollies will perform. ABBA will not.

I was kind of hoping for Phil Collins to play drums for Abba...

    Wow, that's gonna be a boring Rock Hall concert . . .

Which is pretty much how I regard your posts that cite the voters' agreement. Totally unnecessary. If I was mistaken in reading a certain level of snideness in the repeated "I hate them, and the voters AGREE!!!!" assertions, then mea culpa.

Even if you discount "Mamma Mia!" completely, their influence is monumental. Whether you like it or not, they pretty much pioneered the music video and have influenced tons of today's stars. They also influenced more Swedes to enter pop music, and because of that Stockholm --- thanks to producers and songwriters Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Rami, Shellback and others — is a music industry hub that has built hits for everyone from Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys to Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Katy Perry and Ke$ha.

I don't particularly care for some of those artists . . . but if we're talking "influence", it's all over the globe. Pioneers of Europop -- for better or worse --- once again, it's like "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" to find something they DIDN"T influence.

And of course, you can't dismiss "Mamma Mia!" So contrary to them having "no" influence, they are arguably among the MOST influential members to the Hall of Fame.

If "influence" were a solid, stated criteria, there is no possible logical explanation for why Black Sabbath had to wait a decade to get in. I would also cite Motorhead as the heavy-metal equivalent of the Velvet Underground as far as a band that never truly broke through but is cited as a major influence by those who later started bands of a similar ilk.

But again, Metallica (despite James Hetfield's all-timer of a speech) is probably as good as it will get for recognition of that particular genre of music.

Europop has produced some of the most numbing crap imaginable (the Hoff, Kylie Minogue, Nu Virgos, etc.), but Abba seemed to put out stuff that rose above what it spawned. And even the women were real musicians and songwriters, tho the decision was made to reduce them to being just singers.

I'm shocked at all the Cure hate around here.
