Serious question, but I honestly have no idea, so please be gentle - why is it that Phillips is dismissed as a hack executive who will never get another GM job in the bigs, while Bobby Valentine is still very much a viable candidate for managerial openings?

Last I looked, they have an equivalent number of pennants (1) and post-season appearances (2) on their resumes......
